At the age of six he moved with his parents to Chillicothe, Iowa, and in that town grew to manhood. On the second day of February, 1865, he was united in marriage to Amanda Buchanan of Ottumwa, Iowa. To them eight children were born. In 1877 the family moved to Leon, Iowa, where he remained until 1907. In that year he came to Paonia and here he made his home until his death. In 1915 the community event was the celebration of the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Clark. He leaves to mourn, besides a brother at Chillicothe, Iowa, two sons, George A. and Charles W. Clark and one daughter, Mrs. A.O. Stucker, all of Paonia, and twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, besides a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted from the home of George A. Clark Sunday afternoon at 2:30 by the Rev. Mr. E. G. Morse, pastor of the Community Church, after which the body was tenderly laid at rest in the Bethleham cemetery. "He bade no one a last farewell, He said goodbye to none; The Heavenly Gates were open And a loving voice said, 'Come!" And with farewell unspoken He gently entered Home".
