Rhoades, 83, owner and shop operator of the Duchess Beauty Shop in Paonia for 35 years, died Sunday Dec 27, 1981, at 541 ½ Glen Road, her home for five years. She was the widow of George Rhoades who died in Denver in 1956. Mrs. Rhoades was a 1936 graduate of the Western Slope Beauty School. She moved to Paonia in 1941. She was member of the Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, the Beauticians Union, and the First Christian Church. Mrs. Rhoades was born Mary Scarlett July 14, 1898, Eaton, Colo., and attended schools in Appleton. The Rhoades were married in Montrose Aug 12, 1926. Her first marriage, to Jack Edwards, ended in divorce. Surviving are one daughter, Grace Nessen of Oceanside, Calif; one brother, Ivan Scarlett of Glenwood Springs; one sister, Mrs. Alex (Edith) Bauer of Grand Junction, and one grandchild.
