Shults, Died at 68. A prominent figure among Western Slope cattleman, Roy Rudolph Shults, died at noon Tuesday in Veterans Hospital. He had been ill seven months. Shults had owned and operated the Delta Sales Yard for 21 years and run a resort ranch on the San Miguel River for several. In addition, he was an auctioneer and real estate dealer. For two years, Mr. Shults had lived in Montrose. As a resident of the Western Slope since 1905, he had lived in several towns. He came to Grand Junction as a small boy. Five years later he moved to Collbran where he remained for 11 years, graduating from high school there. He lived at Delta from 121 until 1950, then at Norwood until 1962. Always active in community affairs, he was served as a member of Delta’s Town Council four years. He was active in the Elks Lodge and was a past exalted ruler of the Delta lodge; he had several offices in the Lions Club including district governor; he was past district commander, and a past national deputy commander of the Veterans Foreign Wars; and was a member of the American Legion, World War I Veterans, and the Methodist Church at Montrose. Mr. Shults was born at Salem, Mo. June 26, 1896. He married Gladys M. Haynes at Aztec, N. M., Nov. 10, 1946. He served in France as a sergeant with the field during World War I. He is survived by his wife; his mother, Mrs. Delta Shults Reed of Brinkley, Ark.; a son, Roy C. of Grand Junction; a stepson William E. Haynes of Montrose; two brothers, Harold of Grand Junction and Howard of Denver; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the First Methodist Church at Delta with the Rev. J. Hubert Wubben officiating. Graveside rites will be conducted in Delta Cemetery by the VFW Post. The Roberts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Cancer fund.
