Colorado Saturday, Jul 22, 1944, page 4 Mary Elizabeth [Scarlett] Stotz Dies Early Today at Home of Her Daughter Fruita, July 22. Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Stotz, 83, died at 3:30 o’clock this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charlene Cattles, in the Hunter district. Mrs. Stotz, resident of the Grand Valley about 58 years, had been ill for the past two months. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Martin chapel in Grand Junction, with the Rev. Frank Weaver officiating. Burial will be made in the Crown Point cemetery at Appleton. Pallbearers will be Ross Scarlett, Ivan Scarlett, Kenneth Hetzel, Raymond Hetzel, Clarence Files, and Clyde Cattles. The Appleton Brethren church musicians will provide music for the rites. Mary Elizabeth Scarlett was born Feb. 18, 1861, in Iowa, and she spent the early part of her life in that state. She came to Grand Junction about 60 years ago and was married in March 1906 to Henry P. Stotz, at Grand Junction. Mr. and Mrs. Stotz made their home in Grand Junction for approximately 29 years. He died in February 1935, and the following year Mrs. Stotz moved to the Hunter community. Mrs. Stotz was the last member of a family of four sisters and three brothers. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Cattles; two grandchildren, Mrs. June Files, and Clyde Cattles; four great grand children; and several nieces and nephews.
