Bulkeley Dies [photo] Max M. Bulkeley, U.S. Attorney here from 1947 to 1951, died Friday at Presbyterian Hospital. He had suffered a heart attack Thursday at his home, 2295 Birch st. Services will be in Denver but the date has not been determined. Burial will be at Wray, Colo. Arrangements are by Howard Mortuary. Bulkeley, 64, was born Sept. 29, 1883 in Galesburg, Ill. As a young boy he moved to Grand Junction with his parents and was graduated from the high school there. He received his law degree from Denver University in 1903 and established his practice in Wray. He was appointed to the federal post in July, 1947 on recommendation of former Sen. Ed Johnson. He filled the post after Thomas J. Morrissey had resigned to run for mayor of Denver. He declined to accept a second term as federal attorney in 1951 and retired from practice. Bulkeley and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United States after his retirement until his health began to fail. Bulkeley was an active worker in the Democratic Party and served as county chairman in Yuma County for many years. He also was active in the Odd Fellows Lodge and served as the state grand master in 1934. He took part in many fund drives of the Denver YMCA and was a member of the Denver Rotary Club. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Sue V., are two sons, James B. Bulkeley of Denver and Robert A. Bulkeley of Altadena, Calif., a brother, Rolla Bulkeley of Canon City, and three grandchildren.
