Granby Hillyer, 66, of 841 Washington street, former United States District Attorney for Colorado, died at Mercy hospital Thursday of a heart ailment with which he was stricken three weeks ago. Physicians had believed he was recovering until a final attack Thursday. Mr. Hillyer was born in Rome, Ga., July 7, 1875, but in boyhood went with his parents to Washington, D.C., where he was graduated from law school. In 1901 he came to Colorado and settled in Lamar, Colo., where he practiced law and took part in politics. He was elected state representative in 1902. Later he was elected district judge at Trinidad and held that office until he was appointed United States district attorney for Colorado in 1922. With the latter appointment he and his family moved to Denver. In recent years he had maintained law offices in the Ernst & Cranmer building. He was a member of the Denver Bar Association. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Anita Creagh Hillyer, daughter of a pioneer southern Colorado family; two grandsons, Granby and St. George Hillyer of Denver; a daughter, Mrs. Albert M Hunt of Boston, and two brothers, F. L. of San Antonio, Texas, and Janius of Lamar, Colo.
