A telegram from his uncle, Captain John S. Wise to a friend here last night conveyed the intelligence which will carry sorrow for many in Virginia. Mr. Hobson was a son of the late Plummer and Annie Wise Hobson, of Ashland, Va., and first saw the light in this State about forty years ago. His father died when he was a small boy, but his mother, a daughter of Governor Henry A. Wise, survives and is now a resident of Ashland. Mr. Hobson was educated and William and Mary College and the University of Virginia, where he made a fine record, studying for the bar. He was an honored member of the alumni society of the latter institution and was recently selected to deliver the annual address before the society next year. After practicing law for a while in this city he went to Denver, Col., about fifteen years ago where he followed his profession and where the brilliant promises of his youth approached fulfillment. To his heritage of integrity in the highest degree he combined the twin elements of success, genius and application. His visits to his old home in Virginia he counted among the greatest pleasures of his life and they afforded to his friend as much as they gave him. His career at the Denver bar met the most liberal prediction of his friends here who deeply regret the untimely ending of a life so full of promise. He was widely connected in Virginia and was passionately devoted to his native State. Mr. Hobson married Mrs. Catharine Jermain, nee Phoyer, of Boston, who with four children survive him. His brother, Rev. James Cannon Hobson, of the Episcopal church, died several years ago. The funeral will take place tomorrow in Troy, N. Y. A sad coincidence is that Mr. Hobson's young nephew, bearing the same name, Henry Wise Hobson, lost his life by fire aboard the ship Kenniworth, on which he was engaged, near Valparaiso, the latter part of July last. The news of his death was received by his grandmother, Mrs. Hobson, in Ashland July 26th.
