SINGLE GRAVESITE OF CONRAD MOSCHEL Private property, Douglas County, Co. Twp. 8S-Range 66W-Sec.26-NW1/4, SW1/4 Conrad Moschel was serving in Co. M. of the Colorado Cavalry who were stationed at the "California Ranche" in Franktown, Co. He was with three other soldiers helping to recover George Engl's herd of shorthorn cattle in the Lake Gulch area of Douglas Co., CO, when the men were attacked by Indians. Conrad Moschel was the only one that was unable to reach the fort in Franktown. He was found 6 days later, scalped. He also had an arrow in his back and a bullet in is head. A granite tombstone was later added by the Engl family. Originally there was a carving in the bluffs where he was found. Carved into bluffs.
