James Cemetery, Elbert County, Colorado http://files.usgwarchives.net/co/elbert/cemeteries/jones.txt Donated by: Charles Loeffler 9/2009 James Cemetery, in southwestern Elbert County, CO, is located on the south side of Road 86 (aka Smith Road), about 0.1 mile west of Elk Meadows Circle, and east of Road 9. It is an old, small cemetery, contained in an area approximately 90x120 feet, enclosed by a three-strand barbed wire fence with a metal gate on the north side, adjacent to the road. As of the date of survey (September 3, 2009), the cemetery was overgrown with waist-high grass, and it appears that care and maintenance of the grave sites has been very minimal over the years. There are five grave makers remaining with legible inscriptions, with the names of seven people. The site shows evidence of several more graves, but, sadly, the markers are completely deteriorated or missing. There is no evidence of any burials since the early 1920s, and all but one grave marker date to the late 1800s. ********************************************************************************************************************************* Surname First Middle Born Died Notations ********************************************************************************************************************************* Epler Clarence 3 July 1879 30 October 1879 "Son of D.L. & S.
