I began a search to see where his went. They had a nice history in Colorado Springs Colorado and I didn’t want to lose this information that others may want. It is as follows. He wanted to know about a Robert Joseph Harter, son of a Clarence Harter and Kathrine Marie. I located a David M Harter and Josie in the 1900 Colorado Springs, Colorado Federal Census. They had Roy 15, Dale 10, Clarence 1 and Ethel J 12. David was shown to be a painter born Jun 1869 in Ohio. Josie was born in Indiana May 1862. The would be the first lines of the family to show up in the Colorado Springs area. Nothing is known as to what happened to them after that census and they weren’t located in the 1910 census yet. The children went on to other things. Roy stayed in Colorado Springs. Clarence listed above is the following: Clarence Arnold Harter is shown in the 1917 WWI Draft as living at 523 Prospect in Colorado Springs. He was born April 3, 1899 in Colorado showing the family was in Colorado before the 1900s. Clarence is shown in the Kansas City Kansas City Directory with Marie as a shipping Clerk. He resided at 124 N 13th in 1938. This matches the man’s family as he said Clarence was married to a Kathrine Marie. In 1940 Clarence worked for the Kansas Service Grocery in Kansas City. Social Security Death Index as passing on in June 1978 in Kansas City, Kansas. Dale that is 10 above, is shown in the 1917 WWI draft at 47 E Scott St. Tuscola, Douglas County Illinois. He is an Auto Worker at Continental Motors in Detroit Michigan. He shows to have an eyesight problem. He shows he was born Sep 27, 1890 in Lincoln Nebraska. The Social Security Death Index shows that he died in Jan 1985 in Riverside County California. I didn’t find anything on Ethel. Roy James Harter stayed in Colorado Springs, Colorado and was married to a Maude M. They resided in Colorado Springs from before 1899 until after 1963. Roy registered for the WWI Draft as Roy James Harter 632 N Prospect Colorado, Springs Colorado Born 03 Dec 1884 in Kansas and married to a Maud M. HE is a grocer. Roy and Maude are shown in the 1938 census with Eleanor M and Richard M as their children. Roy is shown in the 1943 Colorado Springs, Colorado directory as owning the Red and White Grocery store there. It said “Official Red and White Food Store” with Groceries, Meats, Fruits and Vegetables. In 1963 Roy and Maude still live in the same house at 526 N Prospect, however, for the first time since 1938, someone else owns the Harter’s Red and White Grocery Store. !963 shows V. Ray Hall owning the store. Additional Comments: I am not related to this person, just helped someone and found it. The Red and White Grocery seems to have a Chain Store and may be of historical value to someone. Also David M and Jospephine E Harter are some of the early pioneers of that area.
