Paupers Cemetery, Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado Donated to the Colorado Archives by the Pikes Peak Genealogical Society, June 6, 2000. In 1957, seven graves were found when a road was being built on land that had been part of the El Paso County poor farm. Unmarked, the graves were moved a short distance to the southwest corner of Lower Gold camp Road and 21st Street. Today the graves and blank markers are cared for by the El Paso County parks department. The poor farm's records were destroyed when the farm's first hospital burned January 20, 1900. According to county information, anyone who died of smallpox in the county was buried here. A Colorado Springs Gazette Telegraph newspaper article (April 24, 1957, page 1) identifies one burial as that of Henry PARKS, 46, a resident of the farm from July 7, 1899 until Nov. 10, 1900, when he died after an epileptic seizure. He was born Arkansas. Questions may be directed to: Cemetery Project, Pikes Peak GS, P.O.
