Tuesday Morning, Dec. 7, 1943; page 1. '...that these Dead shall not have died in vain...' Two years have passed since that day which history will label Pearl Harbor - two years which have left the brand of war on many homes. More then 5,000 young men have left El Paso county in their nation's service. At least 54 - those named in the first list here - will not return. That is more than one in every 100, more than the county's war dead in World War I. And the end is not yet - causality lists still come, battle still remain to be fought, a war remains to be won. So today, the anniversary of Pearl Harbor, is not an anniversary at all, it is a day of commemoration, a day of rededication, a day of determination that these dead shall not have died in vain.
