John T HANEY Funeral is Wednesday
Funeral services for John T Haney, prominent lawyer who died Sunday in a local 
hospital, will be held at 11 am Wednesday in the Law Mortuary.
The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Michael Harrington will officiate. Private burial services 
will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Haney lived at 1209 N. Cascade Ave.  For many years he was a member of the 
firm Haney and Jackson, which later became the present firm of Haney, Howbert 
and Akers.
Mr. Haney was born May 15, 1883 in Talladega, Ala. He lived in Mississippi 
during his youth and attended the University of Mississippi at Oxford and the 
Cumberland University School of Law in Lebanon, Tenn.
He was married to Allie Heidelberg in 1908 of Hattiesburg, Miss.  He practiced 
law there until 1917 when the family moved to Colorado.
Mr. Haney was well-known as a public speaker throughout the region and was 
noted for his now classic "In Defense of the Lazy Man" speech which he 
delivered more than one hundred times to organizations throughout the state.
He was a member of the El Paso County and American Bar Associations. He also 
belonged to the Kiwanis Club,  Winter Knight Club, Round Table, and was for 
many years a board member of Sunnyrest Sanitarium.  In 1947 he was awarded an 
honorary doctor of law degree from Colorado College.
Mr. Haney is survived by his widow, Mrs. Allie Haney; three sons, William Q 
Haney, J. Donald Haney, and James M. Haney, all of this city; two daughters, 
Mrs. William A Hillhouse of Denver, and Mrs. John M Lockridge, Oklahoma City; 
15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a sister, Miss Agnes Haney of 
Hattiesburg Miss.


Additional Comments:
NOTE: He was a son of William Trousdale Haney and wife Sarah C., who located 
to Talladega Co, AL from Georgia, then Hattiesburg MS by 1900 where he was 
involved in a sawmill business.
