Hafen, Ph D Page 167 Dr. Leonidas Erskine Rupert, Florence physician and former coroner of Fremont county, was born in the village of Rupert, Greenbrier county, West Virginia, March 16, 1871, a son of Dr. Cyrus A. and Rachel Elizabeth (McClung) Rupert, both also natives of that section of the Old Dominion now included within the bounds of West Virginia, the former born at Point Pleasant and the latter in Greenbrier county, and under his father’s preceptorship and through further studies he was educated for the medical profession. In 1907 he became established in practice at Florence and so continues. For several years he was the local surgeon for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad Company. On September 6, 1900, at Phillipsburg, Pennsylvania, Dr. Rupert and Mary Todd were united in marriage. They are members of the Protestant Episcopal church and the Doctor is senior warden of the parish with which they are connected. He is a member of the Local Study Club, is a Mason of high degree and a Noble of the Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine and is also affiliated with the Modern Woodmen and the Woodmen of the World.
