EMMA JONES SUCCUMBS SUNDAY Mrs. Emma Cornelia Jones of 800 South 9th, long-time Fremont county resident, was claimed by death at a local clinic Sunday at 1:45 p.m. She had been ill nine days. Mrs. Jones was born March 6, 1866, in the state of New York but came to Colorado in a covered wagon in 1888 and has lived in Fremont county since that time. She was the wife of the late E. W. Jones to whom she was married May 13, 1898, in Florence. He died June 4, 1938. Surviving are: One daughter Mrs. Myrtle Towner of Grandview, Idaho; one sister, Mrs. Nettie Kissel of Canon City; six grandchildren, Mrs. Erma Towner of Canon City, Mrs. Ruth Boyle and Mrs. Frances Holcomb of Pueblo, Edward M. Towner of Grandview, Idaho, Lee A. Miller of Walsenburg and John D. Miller of Fairplay, Colo; 14 great- grandchildren, Bob Miller, Annie Millis, Betty Jean Hamilton, Norman Towner, Geraldine Perdue, Alice Mae Towner, Emmette Towner, Sharon Ann Towner, Larry Miller, John Miller, Jimmy Lee Miller, Janice Miller, Elmer J. Towner and Joan Miller; one great-grandchild, Janet Dean Perdue; and several nieces and nephews. Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Holt chapel in Canon City with interment in Union Highland Cemetery in Florence. Additional Comments: Emma Palmatier was born in Poughkeepsie, NY to Wm Henry Palmatier and Julia Ann Ames. She moved to Macon Co., MO with her parents before 1880. She was married first to Hiram Lee Mackey in Macon Co., MO 11 Sept 1880. They had three children: Annie, George and Myrtle. Hiram Mackey was sick with TB when they left Missouri for Colorado so Emma drove the covered wagon. Hiram Lee Mackey died in Coal Creek, Colorado 3 Nov 1893. Their only son George Lee Mackey was drowned 7 July 1896 in Coal Creek. Emma married second 13 May 1898 in Florence, Colorado to Edward Jones.They had no children.
