He was buried in the Hillside cemetery following funeral services at the Grange hall in Hillside which were conducted by the Rev. W. H. Sturtevant. Pallbearers were all close friends of Mr. Koch and who had known him for years. Mr. Koch, a native of Germany, came to this country in 1866 [1867] with his parents. He moved to the Wet Mountain valley in 1871 as a member of the German colony. He spent his childhood days in Hillside and Canon City. On his 25th birthday, Aug. 29, 188[6], he was married to Miss Ida Belle Fellows. They took a ranch at Hillside and lived there for several years, later moving to Canon City. In 1900 Mr. Koch was made water commissioner for the Wet Mountain valley and held that position until his death. Surviving him are three brothers, Pete, Conrad and August, all of Hillside, his widow, and eight children [all now deceased]. They are Mrs. John Stacy of Bend, Oregon; Mrs. Claude Bell of Victor, Colo.; Oscar Koch of Canon City, and Harry Koch, Bert Koch, Mrs. Callie Weeks and Mrs. Sheldon Houle, all of Hillside.
