Mr. Koch had been in poor health for the past year. Born in Germany March 17, 1859, he came to this country with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederic[k] Koch, when he was but a year old. The family lived in Chicago until 1870, when they moved to Canon City with the [German] colony, remaining there for a number of years before moving to Hillside, where they engaged in farming and ranching. Mr. Koch was married to Miss Lena Knuth on August 14, 1881, and to this union were born five sons and five daughters. The family resided at Hillside until 1912, when they moved to Canon City, remaining there until 1925, when they returned to the ranch at Hillside. Besides his wife, five daughters, Mrs. Lucie [Lucy] Shea of Ormiston, Sask., Canada; Mrs. Lena Evans and Mrs. Hattie Wilson of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Mollie Berry and Mrs. Anna Caughman of Hillside; and four sons, Louis Koch of Westcliffe, and William, Fred and Helmuth Koch of Hillside, survive him [all now deceased]. One son, John, preceded his father in death some 38 years ago. Twenty grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive, as well as a host of friends. Obsequies were conducted by Rev. Geo. W.
