Katherine Nelson, 80, a housewife and resident of Glenwood Springs for 39 years, died at Glen Valley Nursing Home December 1, 1968 at 8 AM. Born Katherine McGehee at Meade County, Kentucky, on August 13, 1888, she married John J. Nelson in Denver on September 19, 1920. He preceded her in death in 1931. They had lived in Denver and Rifle previously. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the D.A.R. in Orlando, Florida. Survivors include two nieces, Helen V. French and Mary E. Papin both of Seattle, Washington. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 7, 1968, at 2 PM at Farnum Chapel with Rev. Richard A. Plants officiating. Burial was at Highland Cemetery. ODGEN, Maroc. Glenwood Springs. Marco Ogden, 86, of New Castle, died at 1:30 AM, Sunday at Valley View Hospital here, following a brief illness. A native of Fort Wayne, Ind. he had been a resident of the New Castle area since 1911, and of Colorado since 1885. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Ogden never married. He is survived by a niece and a nephew. Services are being arranged by Farnum's Mortuary. OVERALL, Clarence D. New Castle. Funeral services for Clarence D. Funeral services for Mrs. Bernice Evelyn Parrish, 68, of New Castle, will be held at 10 AM, Monday in Farnum's Chapel in Glenwood Springs. The Rev. W. O. Richards will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery Mrs. Parrish, the widow of Joseph Daniel Parrish, died Thursday at 6 PM, in Valley View Hospital following a long illness. She was a past noble grand of the New Castle Rebekah Lodge. Born Bernice Swain, Dec. 24, 1894, at Mankato, Kansas, she spent her childhood in Oklahoma. She was married at Glenwood Springs in 1920. Mr. Parrish died in 1949. Survivors are two sons, James of Ritzville, Wash., and Fred. of Kellogg, Idaho; five daughters, Miss Jo Ann Parrish of Denver, Mrs. A. J. Moscon of Glenwood Springs, Mrs. Russell Hall of Raton, N.M., Mrs. David McNeal of New Castle and Mrs. Clement LeDonne of Hawthorne, Calif.; two brothers, John and Clarence Swain, both of Oklahoma; four sisters, Mrs. Lola Reinhardt of Durango, Mrs. Dora Jacobs and Mrs. Charles Collins of Oklahoma and Mrs. Lloyd Keller of Albuquerque, N.M., 12 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the American cancer Society. PATCH, Andrew. Glenwood Springs. Andrew LeRoy Patch, 62, of 904 Eighth St., a former rancher in the Divide Creek community, died at 11 PM, Sat. in the Veterans Hospital at Grand Junction. In ill health for several years, he had been admitted to the hospital only an hour earlier. Mr. Patch had lived in Glenwood Springs since he retired several years ago. A veteran of World War I, he held the rank of sergeant. Born March 13, 1897, at Pittsburg, Kansas, he spent his childhood at Edwards and Divide Creek. He was a member of Post 83, American Legion. He was married July 8, 1952, to the former Mrs. Gladys Estes, at Taos, N.M. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Alfred Patch of Silt, a daughter, Mrs. Jim 'Ethel' Hess of Leadville, four step-children, Harry Estes of Grand Junction, Tom Estes of San Francisco, Calif., Jerry Estes of Camp Pendleton, Calif., and Mrs. Leona Richards of Tooele, Utah; two brothers, Harvey Patch of Chula Vista, Calif., William H. Patch of New Castle; three sisters, Mrs. George 'Violet' Lechmere of Rifle, Mrs. Wayne 'May' McCarty of El Monte, Calif., and Miss Hattie Patch of Nemaha, Nebraska, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday in the Farnum Chapel. The Rev. Mrs. Lettie Perry, 79, of New Castle died at 7:30 PM, Friday in Clagett Memorial Hospital in Rifle after a lengthy illness. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Aaron Wurts, of New Castle. Services are tentatively planned for Monday. Sowder Funeral Home is in charge. PERRY, Tony. Funeral services for Tony Perry, 85, were held at 2 PM, Wednesday, August 22, at the St. John's Episcopal Church in New Castle with the Rev. W. O. Richards officiating. Interment was in the Highland Cemetery with the Burdge Mortuary in charge of arrangements. He died at 2:30 PM, Monday, August 20, at Mt. View Nursing Home after being ill the past years. He is survived by his wife, Lettie and six nieces and nephews. He was born on September, 19 1876 in Italy coming to the United States at the age of 15. He was married to Lettie Sessions on Dec. 9, 1903 at New Castle. He resided in the New Castle community for seventy years where he was a farmer. PIFFER, Joseph V. Funeral services for Joseph v. Piffer, 55, a life long resident of New castle, were held Tuesday June 19, 1973 at 10 AM. Mr. Piffer, a mechanic for Berthod Motors did Friday night at Valley View Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Piffer was born Nov. 28, 1917 at New Castle. He married Eleanor Toller on June 7, 1942 in Rifle, Colorado. Mr. Piffer previously worked for the Union Carbide Nuclear Co. at Rifle for 12 years and also as a coal miner. He was a member of the Catholic Church and had worked with the Future Farmers of America Association in Rifle. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gerald Piffer of San Diego, Calf. and Douglas Piffer of New castle; two dau., Mrs. Raymond (Linda) Cameron of Charlotte, NC and Vicki Jo Piffer, of New Castle. Also surviving is one brother, Charles I. Piffer of Glenwood, one aunt, Mrs. Joe Perko, also of Glenwood and three grandchildren. Rev. New Castle youth crushed by Tractor. New Castle. An 11 year old boy was crushed to death Sunday when a farm tractor overturned and pinned him. Garfield County Undersheriff, Les Eccher, said Allen Adair Porter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Barton Porter, was driving the tricycle-type tractor when it apparently went backwards over an embankment and tipped over. The boy was killed instantly. His brother, Eric, 15, was the first to the scene. The mishap occurred on the Porter ranch about four miles south of New Castle. Allen was a Native of New Castle and a sixth grader at New Castle Junior High School. Survivors include four other brothers, William, Dan, Michael, and Terry Porter, all at home. Services are scheduled for 10 am Wednesday at the Congregational Church here and burial in New Castle, Highland Cemetery, Farnum's Mortuary of Glenwood has charge of arrangements. PORTER, Mrs. Frank. New Castle. Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Porter, 62, a resident of New Castle since 1941, will be held at 2 PM, Thursday in the New Castle Congregational Church. Mrs. Porter died at 9 PM, Sunday at Clagett Memorial Hospital in Rifle following an illness of nine days. She was born Dorothy Ruth Goldie on March 24, 1903, at Cripple Creek. She spent her childhood in Cripple Creek and in Aspen. She was married at Utah, in January 1941, to Frank Porter, a New Castle rancher. She also previously lived in St. Louis, Mo. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Stanley Jennings of New Castle and Willis Jennings of Riverside, Calif. A daughter, Mrs. Shirley Smith of New Castle; a daughter, Mrs. Edith Seiferth of the Plains, Ohio; a step-son Barton Porter of New castle, one step-daughter Mrs. Helen McBirney of New Castle. A brother, George Goldie of Nev.; two half brothers, Lowell French of Long Beach, Calif. and Addie Walters of San Diego, Calif; and 23 grandchildren. The Rev. Walter Klein will officiate at the services. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery at New Castle under the direction of Farnum Mortuary of Glenwood Springs. PORTER, Mrs. Julia L. Glenwood Springs. Mrs Julia L. Porter, 72, of Westminster, died Tuesday at Plaza Park Nursing Home in Denver following a long illness. She was born Julia Crawford, March 26, 1892, in Leadville. She was a former New Castle resident. Survivors include a son, Barton Porter, and a daughter, Mrs Helen McBurney, both of New Castle; three brothers, March Crawford of Leadville, Gardner Crawford of Denver, and June Crawford of Inglewood, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Ada Murcray of Leadville. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday at Farnum's Chapel with the Rev. L. E. Cook officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery at New Castle. PRENDERGAST, Francis L. New Francis L. Prendergast, 69, a retired miner, died at 5 PM, Friday at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs following a long illness. Mr. Prendergast had been a resident of New Castle most of his life. He was born June 15, 1899 at Silt Mesa, and spent his childhood at Silt Mesa and New Castle. He married the former Gladys Weller in New Castle on June 23, 1919. She survives, survivors in addition to his wife include one son, Francis L. Prendergast Jr., of Eagle; three daughters, Mrs. James 'Virginia' Waller, and Mrs. Calvin 'Corrine' Edward, both of Grand Junction, and Mrs. Ralph 'Sally' Bidwell of Michigan; thirteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two sisters who live out of the state. Funeral services for Mr. Prendergast, will be a 1 PM, Tuesday at the Farnum chapel in Glenwood Springs. Reverend Thomas Stone officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in New Castle. Farnum Mortuary in charge of arrangements. PRESSLER, Arnold. New Castle. Arnold Pressler, 61 a retired miner, died Saturday in his home. He was a resident of New Castle for 30 years. He was born Aug. 20, 1910 at Baldwin, Colo., and spent his childhood there and in Gunnison. He was married at Leadville on Nov. 19, 1942 to Margaret Gant who survives. Before moving to New Castle they lived in Crested Butte where Mr. Pressler worked in the mines. He was a member of the BPOE Lodge in Gunnison. Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Ross 'Francis' Ingersoll of Rota, Spain; one son, James a 'Butch' Pressler of Colorado Springs; one half-sister, Mrs. Hatie Kunze of El Jebel and four grandchildren. PRESSLER, Charles William. Charles William Pressler, 50, of New Castle passed away July 8 at Salt Lake City, Utah, following a short illness. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 13 at the Farnum Chapel with the Rev. Otto B. Duckworth officiating. Burial was at Highland Cemetery at New Castle. Charles Presser was born May 13, 1915, at Balwin , Colorado where he spent his childhood. He also lived in Denver before coming to New Castle, 36 years ago. Survivors include 2 brothers, Arnold Pressler of New Castle and James Pressler of Denver and one sister, Mrs. Hattie Kunze of Paonia. His mother, Mrs Annie King of New Castle also Survives. RAMSEY, Mrs. Winnie. New Castle. Mrs. Winnie May Ramsey, 83, a resident of New Castle for 58 years, died at 1:50 AM, Monday in the Rifle community hospital. She was the widow of George Ramsey, who died in 1951. Mrs. Ramsey was the former Winnie May Raumaker, born at Alton, Kansas. She was married there Nov. 23, 1897. She was a member of the Congregational Church. Surviving are three sons, Warren G. Ramsey of Lucerne valley, Calif. and Henry and Jack Ramsey, both of Grand Junction; four daughters, Mrs. Lois Gant of New Castle, Mrs Marjorie Trusty of Arvell, Calif. Mrs. Beryl MacDougal of Lucerne, and Mrs. Ellen Platt of El Segundo, Calif. 12 grand children and 19 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday in the Congregational church with the Rev. Walter Klein officiating, burial will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Farnum Mortuary. REED, Elmer. Palisade. Elmer Isaac Reed, 75, of Minturn, died at 4:47 PM, Tuesday in Mesa Memorial Hospital. I ill health for several years, he had been hospitalized for four days. A retired farmer and rancher, he had lived in Grand Junction and New Castle before moving to Minturn a number of years ago. A native of Alamosa, he was born Dec. 27, 1885, and lived there until he was 12 years old. He was married to Hazel Bell Senner on June 12, 1911, at Glenwood Springs. Mrs. Reed died April 28, 1938. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Fred Ryden of Denver, two sisters, Mrs. Iva Dutton of Greeley and Mrs. W. W. 'Harriet' Mallender of Palisade; a brother Eugene S. Reed of Palisade; four grandchildren and three great grand children. Mc Lean's Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. The Sowder Funeral Home of Rifle will be in charge of services and burial will be in the cemetery at New Castle. RENNIN, John Morgan. He was born at Eskins, West Virginia in 1867 and came to Colorado in 1909. His first wife Lorenne Mae Doe, died in 1901. They had 5 children. Mr. Rennin later married, Mrs. Eveling Rilley at New castle, Colorado. Mr Rennin was 43 years old and Marshell at the time he was killed by Bill Griffeth in 1910. RITTER, Mary E. Mary Elizabeth Ritter, 93, a resident of El Segundo, Calif. for the past 18 years died Sunday, March 31, 1968 at El Segundo, Calif. She was born January 4, 1875 in Coffeeville, Kansas. She married John W. Ritter on June 4, 1893 in New Castle. He preceded her in death in 1944. She is survived by three daughters, Lucy Chisholm, Neva Potter and Mary Meeker all of Los Angeles, Calif. and two sons, Merritt of Los Angeles, Calif. and John of New Castle. She has 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 6, 1968 at St. John's Episcopal Church in New Castle. Rev. W. O. Richards officiated with burial in Highland Cemetery in New Castle. RITTER, Mrs. Mary. A former resident of New Castle, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Ritter until 1950 when she went to live with a son, and daughter in Calif. She came to New Castle at the age of 13. SEE ABOVE. SAMPLE, Mrs. Elsie. Glenwood Springs. Mrs. Elsie H. Sample, 74, a registered nurse and a resident of this area for 24 years, died Saturday morning in her home, apparently from a stroke. She was born Jan. 5, 1890, at Alamosa and spent her childhood in Alamosa and New Castle. She was a graduate of Glenwood Springs High School and St. Mary's School of Nursing in Salt Lake City. She was married in Grand Junction on Dec. 19, 1916, to Samuel John Sample. He died May 9, 1937, in Rochester, Minn. He was a rancher and a lawyer. Mrs. Sample was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church at New Castle, Glenwood Business and Professional Women, Nurses Assn., Eastern Star, and was active in Garfield County tuberculosis Ass. Survivors include two sons, Ralph R. and Barton, both of New Castle; a daughter, Mrs. George Chancler of Eagle; two sisters, Mrs. Mike Brennan and Miss Maria V. Harris, both of Rifle; and eight grandchildren. Friends who wish may make a contribution to the Valley View Hosp. Assn. or the St. Barnabas Church building fund. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 PM, in St. John's Episcopal Church in New Castle with the Rev. W. O. Richards officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery at New Castle. Farnum Mortuary is in charge. SIMONSON, Carl E. Rifle. Carl Emile Simonson, 68, a rancher at Silt, died at 10:30 AM Monday in Veterans Hospital at Grand Junction. He had been a patient for five weeks. Born at New Castle on Dec. 2, 1897, Mr. Simonson had been a lifelong resident of Silt. His wife, Bertha Bauer Simonson, died July 20, 1964. They were married at Aspen on July 10, 1942. Mr. Simonson was a Member of the IOOF and Rebekah Lodges, and the Encampment at Rifle. Served with the Air Force during World War II, assigned to duty at Sheppard Field, Wichita Falls, Texas. he is survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Don Ingersoll, of New Castle; two brothers, Fred and Louis Simonson, both of New Castle, two sisters, Mrs. Otto Mamaz of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Mrs. John Dwire of New Castle; 5 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Simonson, 64, who had lived in New Castle all his life, died at 12:15 PM, Monday as he talked with a friend in a New Castle business establishment. Mr Simonson, a retired rancher was born here on Nov. 16, 1902. Services will be at 1:30 PM. Thursday at the Congregational Church with the Rev. W. K. Klein officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Farnum's Mortuary. Survivors include a brother Fred Simonson of new Castle; and two sisters, Mrs. John 'Nora' Dwire of New Castle and Mrs. Lillie Mamay of Brooklyn, N.Y. SIMONSON, Mrs. Carl E. Silt. Mrs Carl E. Simonson, 67, a resident here since 1935, died Thursday at Rifle Communicy Nursing Home in Rifle. She had been ill since May. She was born Bertha Caroline Bauer on Sept. 9, 1896 at LeCompton, Kansas. She resided in LeCompton, Denver and Sugar City, Colo., before coming to the Western Slope in 1935, moving to a ranch south of Silt. She married Carl E. Simonson on Oct. 20, 1942 in Glenwood Springs. The Simonsons lived on Elk Creek and on Silt mesa before moving into Silt in 1949. Mrs Simonson was a member of the Rebekah Lodge at Rifle. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Mrs. David 'Geneva' Ingersoll of New Castle; a brother, Greoge Bauer of Delta; two sisters, Mrs. Roy 'Myrtle' Downing of Mount View, Calif. and Mrs. Melvin 'Edabelle' John of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Services will be announced by Sowder Funeral Home of Rifle. SIMPSON, Margaret Dow. Margaret Dow Simpson, 98, of Glenwood Springs, died Thursday morning, March 14, 1974. She had been a retired nurse and had lived in Glenwood Springs for the past 31 years. Death occurred at glen Valley Nursing Home. A native of Perth, Scotland, where she met John Simpson whom she married at Perthshire, Scotland, December 24, 1897. Her husband died in 1935. Mrs. Simpson came to Calument, Michigan, in 1907 and to Colorado in 1911. She moved to California in 1926 accepting a position at Olive View Sanitorium, San Fernando, where she worked for 17 years. Funeral Services were conducted at Farnum Mortuary Chapel on Saturday, March 16, 1974, with Rev. A. Gail Jones officiating. Burial was at Highland cemetery, New castle, Colorado. Mrs. Simpson is survived by a son, John Arthur Simpson of Yucaipa, Calif. and a daughter, Mrs. Elzie (Janey) Rippy of New Castle, Colorado. SLUNAKER, Mrs. Mildred. New Castle. Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Iola Slunaker, 37, a resident of New Castle 18 years, will be held at 2 PM, Sunday in the Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Musgrave officiating. Mrs. Slunaker died at 9 PM, Wednesday at her home following an apparent heart attack. She was born Mildred Iola Davis at Rifle on March 16, 1928. She spent her childhood in Rifle and New Castle. She was married at Pasasdena, Calif., on March 26, 1945, to E. Wayne Slunaker. Mrs. Slunaker was a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband; three sons, Dennis, Fred and Willis and two daughters, Phyllis and Diane, all at home; her mother, Mrs. Ruth Heilig of Tacoma, Wash., and two sisters, Mrs. Rachel Martin of New Castle and Mrs. Marie Henderson of Pasadena, Calif. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery at New Castle. SMITH, George Hunter. George H. Smith, 84, a resident of Canon City, Colorado for many years, passed away at his home there on October 28, 1969. Death was attributed to a heart attack. A former state mine inspector, Smith was born in Palmira, Ohio on Feb 22, 1885. He came to Colorado as an infant, where he lived most of his life. He married Goldie Noreen Lett at Raton, New Mexico in April of 1917. She survives. Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Veatch of Canon City, Colorado, two sons, Westley of Denver and Stewart of Los Animas, twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Bain Hall of New Castle. Services were held in Canon City, October 30 at the Chapel of the Garden. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, New Castle, Oct. 31. Rev. Walter K. Klein officiated. SMITH, Quentin E. Rifle. Services for Quentin E. Smith, age 2 of Silt will be at 2 PM, Sat. at the First Baptist Church in Silt. The services will be read by the Rev. H. D. Musgrave and burial will be at Highland Cemetery. SPARKS, Lester E. Lester E. Sparks, 82, a New Castle resident since 1907 and one time mayor, died at 4 PM Thursday, May 4, at the Clagett Memorial Hospital, following a long illness. Sparks was a farmer for several years and worked for 35 years with the fruit and vegetable products inspection service, retiring in 1958. After his retirement, he worked as deputy county assessor and county pest inspector. For the past several years he has been a rock hound and has had a rock collection gathered from all over the world. A member of St. John's Episcopal Church, he served as Justice of the Peace in New Castle. as well as, being mayor. He was also a member of Neighbors of Woodcraft for 40 years. Born in Longmont, Dec. 19, 1889, he moved with his family to Glenwood Springs in 1900, attending Glenwood Schools and graduating from there. He has lived in New Castle since 1907. He married Jean I. Murray, June 19, 1912 at New Castle. His wife and three sons, Murray of Birmingham, Alabama, Jack of Rogers, Arkansas and Walter of Aberdeen, Idaho, all survive him. Other survivors include one brother, Nathan, of Woodsboro, Texas, two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Nichols of Rifle, and Mrs Mary Nelson, of Lon Beach, Calif., six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and other relatives. Funeral services were held today (Monday), at 2 PM, in St. John's Episcopal Church in New Castle. Burial followed in the Highland Cemetery. Nathan Albert Sparks, 66, Woodsboro, Tex., a mechanic for Atltic Richfield Co. since 1949, died last Wednesday at Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born Oct. 1, 1903, at Glenwood Springs, and he grew up in New castle and was a graduate of New Castle High School. He married Mary Otten on March 13, 1950, at Refugio, Texas. Mr. Sparks was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Donald of Campbell, Calif.; two daughter, Mrs. Denny (Phyllis) Moore of Lebanod, Ore., and Mrs. Marilyn Newkirk of Hurst, Texas; one sister; and 10 grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Mayne, two sisters Mrs. Pearle Nichols. Rifle, and Mrs. Mary Nelson, Wilmingon, Calif. three brothers, Lester Sparks, New Castle, Walter Sparks, Fruitvale and Nathan Sparks, Woodsboro, Texas. Pallbearers will be C. Z. Buckles, Percy Jenkinson, Charles Shanks, Tom Tibbetts, Aaron Wurts, and Ray Young. STATLER, Tina Kay. Graveside services were held Friday, May 19, at 10 AM, for Tina Kay Statler, 1 day old, of New Castle. She was born on May 17, 1972 in the Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs. Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Statler, New Castle; and her grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Bill Glasscock of New Castle, and Mrs Ethel C. Statler of Yakima, Washington. Ruel Wesley Stayton, 79, a resident or New Castle for the past 54 years, died at 4 PM, Saturday Nov. 25, at his home, following a lengthy illness. Born Aug. 17, 1893, at Bates County, Missouri, he spent his childhood there. He married Elsie May Yandell in 1924. She survives. Mr. Stayton was a farmer and a dairy man in the New Castle area for 30 years. He was a member of the Foursquare Church of New Castle. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. W. D. 'Ruth' Lawson of Rifle, Mrs. Bill R. 'Helen' Davis of New Castle, Mrs. C. F. 'Betty' Dawson of New castle, Mrs. M. H. 'Jean ' Mullenax of Aspen; two sisters, 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. STONE, James A. New Castle. James A. 'Uncle Dick' Stone, 81, a resident of New Castle for 59 years, died at 1:30 PM Friday following a heart attack. He was a coal miner by occupation. Mr. Stone was born July 27, 1877, at Platte City, MO., and spent his childhood at South Park and Breckenridge, Colorado. He came to New Castle in 1900 and was married here in 1903 to Minnie Davis. She died Sept. 14, 1922. He was married to her sister, the former Carrie Davis, in 1938. Since her death in 1957, he had lived in the home of a nephew, Willis Davis. Mr. Stone is survived by two children, Ellery Stone, and Mrs. Hattie Brown, both of Klamath Falls, Ore. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Monday in the Congregational Church. Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel 'Fred' Stotts of New Castle were held Saturday, May 12 at 2 PM in the New Castle congregational Church. The Rev. Walter Klein officiated and burial was in the Highland Cemetery at New Castle. Mrs John McNeel, organist, accompanied Mrs. Elmer Roberts who sang 'The Old Rugged Cross' and 'Beyond the Sunset'. Pallbearers were Pete Mattivi, Barton Sample, Charles Spaulding, Franklin Takacs, Charles McNair and Had Deane. Funeral services were under the direction of the Peltier-Sowder Funeral Home of Rifle. Mrs. Stotts died May 10, at 10:45 AM in the Rifle community hospital where she had been a patient for 3 1/2 hours. Ethel F. Goolsby was born October 16, 1890 at Shubert, Nebr. where she attended school and grew to womanhood. She attended Peru teachers Normal College at Peru, Nebr. and taught school in western Nebraska for several years. after her marriage to Fred 'Chick' Stotts at Goodland, Kansas in 1915, Mr. and Mrs. Stotts worked with a rodeo circuit and later were ranching in Jackson County and Steamboat Springs. They moved to Snowmass 19 years ago where they owned and operated a Dude ranch and later moved to New Castle where she has been a resident since December of 1961. She was affiliated with the Christian Church. Survivors in addition to her husband, Fred 'Chick' Stotts of New Castle are: her mother, Mrs. Della Goolsby of Shubet, Nebraska, one sister, Mrs. Vena Rowell of Shubert, Nebraska and two nephews. (John Stremme, gt. nephew of Theodore, asked that I add to this entry and this is the result. --- Theodore was a brother of John G. Stremme who married Julia Anna Kuhlman Jan. 4, 1887 in Quincy, Illinois. They moved west to Colorado in Feb. 1887. Theodore followed in 1888. After John G.'s death in 1894, Julia and the children lived in Fulford and then on June 22, 1899 she married Theodore. No children were born of this union. Theodore died on July 15, 1943. John G. and Julia had 5 children. John Stremme is the son of Arthur John Stremme second child of John G. and Julia.) STROUSE, Roy. Vernon, Texas. Roy John Strouse, 74, a resident of Sparkman, Ark., died Friday at Vernon while on his was to New Castle. Mr. Strouse was born March 4, 1886, at New Castle, and grew up in the New Castle Silt area. He was a retired carpenter. Surviving are his wife, May; two daughters, Mrs. Cecil 'Florence' Carpenter of Silt and Mrs. Dale 'Margie' Cleaveland of Canon City; a sister, Mrs. Lester Raley of Inglewood, Calif., three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several step-children. Ella Jane was raised by Seits family of Humboldt, NE., and just what Hugh did is still a mystery. Hugh married Nancy Adeline McBride in 1904 and had three girls previously mentioned. Was kicked in the head by a horse and killed 1/12/1911. Abe married Adline in 1913 and was killed in a car train accident in 1945. Adeline died on 6/11/1965. Her childhood was spent in Casper, Wyoming and Minneapolis. She was a graduate of Minneapolis High School and the University of Minnesota and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She was married Jan. 2, 1935, at Sioux Falls, S. D. to R. H. Sweetman. They resided here for 14 years. TUTTLE, Rose J. 81, of New Castle died at 8 AM Thursday, Aug. 9, 1973 at Valley View Hospital after a lengthy illness. She had been a resident of the New Castle community for the past 46 years. Rose J. Rosetta was born Sept. 19, 1891, at Aspen and spent her childhood there and in Marble and Crystal. She was married in Glenwood Springs to Frederic I. Tuttle on Sept 25, 1912. He died here in 1945. For a time the couple lived in Peach valley, prior to moving to New Castle. Mrs. Tuttle had made her home in Rifle for the last one and one half years before being hospitalized here. Rose Tuttle was a member of the Catholic Church Neighbors of Wood Craft, New castle Reading Club, New Castle Reading Club, Rebekah Lodge No. 114, Past Noble Grand Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit NO. 164, all of New Castle. Survivors include one son, Frederic I. Tuttle, Jr. of Stanton, Calf.; two daughter, Mrs. Herb (Pearl) Jolley of Rifle, and Mrs. Carl (Ruby) Mc Neal of Glenwood Springs, and six grandchildren. Westley, 83, a longtime resident of New Castle and later Glenwood Springs, died at 6:40 PM on Saturday, May 29, 1971, at Glen Valley Nursing Home in Glenwood after a lengthy illness. He was born on August 28, 1887 in Walsenburg, Colorado, and spent his childhood there. He was married to Jennie Smith Creger in 1914 at New Castle, she died on October 10, 1970, in Grand Junction. Westley who lived in New Castle most of his life, was a member of the Congregational Church in New Castle and United Mine Workers Local NO. 7536. He had lived in Glenwood for six years. Survivors are a son, Harold Westley of Glenwood; one daughter, Mrs. Marvin 'Arlene' Brown of Glenwood, a half brother, Wilbert W. Strouse of California, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Another son, Cregar Westley died in 1947. Funeral services for Jennie Maude Westley were held on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Congregational Church in New Castle. A resident of Glenwood Springs for five years, Mrs. Westley, 74, died at 8:15 PM on Oct. 10, 1970, in Grand Junction, following an illness of three weeks. Jennie Maude Smith Creger was born April 30, 1896 at Denver, Colorado. She spent her childhood at New Castle, where she married Alfred E. Westley on Dec. 23, 1914. her spouse, a retired miner survives. A member of the New Castle Congregational Church, The New Castle Reading Club and the Golden Age Club of Glenwood Springs, she lived in New Castle for 67 years. WILDER, Leone. Graveside services for Mrs. Leone Wilder, 90, of Glenwood Springs, will be held at 2 PM, Friday, August 20, 1971, at Highland Cemetery in New Castle with the Rev. Richard A. Plants officiating. Mrs. Wilder, a retired school teacher and a resident of Glenwood Springs for 21 years, died at 1 AM August 15 at Glen Valley Nursing Home following a long illness. She was born o August 15, 1881, at Sheffield, Iowa and spent her childhood there. She attended Cornell College and the University of Minnesota before her marriage to George Wilder on August 12, 1908 at Fort Collins, Colorado. Her husband died in 1937 at Rochester, Minnesota. She was Leone Ormrod before her marriage. Mrs. Wilder taught English in Minneapolis, Indiana High School for 16 years, lived at Hampton, Iowa until 1908 and in Fort Collins before moving to Glenwood Springs. She was a member of the Jane Jefferson Club and the Garden Club of Fort Collins. Her greatest interests were traveling and gardening and she was a world wide traveler. She is survived by two grandson, Mickey Sweetman of Denver, and Ricahrd H. Sweetman of Boulder. A daughter, Helen Sweetman died in 1961. Willey died Tuesday April 2 at Fort Collins who apparently suffered a heart attack. Lilburn Leslie Williams, 91, a retired coal miner and a resident of New Castle for 34 years, died at 8:30 PM, Tuesday in the Mountain View Nursing Home at Glenwood Springs. Mr. Williams was a resident of the Paonia area for much of his life. He was born at Union, Mo., on April 13, 1868, but came to Paonia during his childhood and lived there until moving to New Castle. He was married in Denver on May 5, 1921, to the former Bertha Bell. Mrs. Williams survives. A nephew, Floyd Williams, lived in Paonia. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM. She spent he childhood in Missouri coming to Colorado in 1915. she lived in Gunnison and later in Marble, moving to the New Castle community in 1925. She married Lilburn L. Williams On May 5, 1921, in Denver. He died in November 1959. Survivors include a brother, Emmett Bell of Long Beach, California. WILMOTH, Doyle. Glenwood Springs, funeral services will be held Friday for Doyle Ray 'Dee' Wilmoth, 77, a retired miner who died of a heart attack at 5:30 PM, Monday, while working in the garden of his home. A resident of Glenwood Springs for 10 years, Mr. Wilmoth had previously lived in Burk, Idao for 20 years. Born Nov. 19, 1882, in West Virginia, he came to Colorado as a child and lived at Glenwood and New Castle. He was married at Eagle on Jan. 30, 1909, to the former Mabel Pearl Roberts. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Ed of Glenwood Springs, and Ray Earnest of Dil (not continued). WILMOTH, Mabel. Glenwood Springs. Mrs Mabel Wilmoth, 79, the widow of D. R. Wilmoth, died at 6:05 PM, Tuesday in Valley View Hospital following an illness of three days. The Wilmoths came to Glenwood Springs 20 years ago from Burke, Idaho. Mr. Wilmoth died in 1960. Mrs Wilmoth was born Mabel Pearl Roberts at Bucklin Ford, Kansas on Jan. 30, 1891, and spent her early life in several Colorado towns. The Wilmoths were married in Glenwood Springs in 1908. Mr Wilmoth was a miner. Surviving are two sons, Ed Wilmoth of Glenwood Springs and Ray Milmoth of Salem. Oregan, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. WOOD, George Henry. Mrs. Wood preceded him in death in Aug of 1949. Mr. Wood, a retired farmer, had been a resident of the New Castle area for 34 years, having lived previously at Ft. Collins and Salida, Colo., Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. Mr Wood died Monday, April 13, at 10 AM, at the Rifle Community Hospital in Rifle following a long illness. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Bryan 'Mabel' Harndern of Laramie, Wyoming; two brothers, Robert M. and Harold Wood of New Castle; two sisters, Mrs. A. B. 'Minnie' Holliday of Bellvue, Colo., and Mrs. Emma Bartschey of Buena Vista, Colo., eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. WOOD, Mrs. Robert. New Castle. Mrs Robert Wood, 84, a resident of New Castle for 50 years, died at 3 AM, Monday in Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs after a lengthy illness. Julia Moore was born Feb. 23, 1884, in West Virginia. She spent her childhood there and moved to New Castle from West Virginia in 1918. Her Husband, Walter E. Barns died in New Castle in 1925. She married Robert Wood at Glenwood Springs on June 4, 1937. Mr. Wood, a rancher, survives. Other survivors are a son, C. Lloyd Barns of Colorado Springs, two daughters Mrs. Cynthia b. Cutter of Grand Junction, and Mrs. Ona E. Steinke of Denver; a brother, two sisters, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. WURTS, Laurence. Lurence R. Wurts of Rifle native who moved back to his hometown four years ago, died on Monday, Feb. 7 in the Grand Junction veteran Hospital. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 PM on Friday, Feb. 11, at the Congregational Church in New Castle; Rev. Walter Klein will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery; Sower Funeral Home of Rifle is handling the arrangements. Wurts, was born in Rifle on Dec. 27, 1913, the son of Aaron and Viola 'Pyle' Wurts. He attended school in New Castle and Rifle, graduated from Rifle High School, attended a college in Calif. and later taught school for a period of time. During World War II, Wurts served with the U. S. Naval air Force. He made his home in Los Angeles following the war, pursuing a career as a machinist with aircraft and aerospace companies. He was preceded in death by a brother, Victor; surviving are his mother, Mrs. Viola Wurts of Rifle, his father Aaron Wurts of New Castle, two brothers, Louis Wurts of Glenwood Spring and James Wurts of Denver; his sister, Mrs. Pete 'Opal' Mattivi of New Castle; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. WURTS, Violet Mary. Violet Mary Wurts, 80, a resident of New Castle for 68 years, died at Valley View Hospital on February 21, 1969. Violet Mary Session was born May 28, 1888, at Vernal, Utah. She spent her childhood in Utah and Meeker, Colorado. In 1931, in New Castle she was married to Aaron Wurts, who survives. She was previously married to Joseph LaBranch who was killed in 1943 in a mine explosion in New Castle. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church of New Castle. Other survivors include four sons, Lowell LaBranch of Moab, Utah; James Wurts of New Castle; Lawrence Wurts of New Castle; and Louis Wurts of Glenwood; two daughters, Mrs. Paul 'Mary' Ganley of Buckeye, Arizona; and Opal Mattivi of New Castle; and 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Alonzo Berton Yandell, 84, of Glenwood Springs passed away following a heart attack at his home on Thursday, Feb. 25. He was a retired farmer and had been a resident of Glenwood Springs for 32 years. He was born Jan. 7, 1881 in Missouri where he spent his childhood. He was married in Protem, Missouri on Dec. 26, 1902 to Abigail Westmoreland who preceded him in Death in 1934. He was a resident of Eagle before coming to Glenwood Springs. Survivors include three sons; Floyd of Grand Valley, Sid of Colorado Springs and Doug Hughes of Glenwood Springs; three daughters; Melba Coulter of Glenwood Springs, Mrs. Elsie Stayton of Carbondale, and Maybelle Frankele of Pomeroy, Washington; two brothers; Charles Yandell of Redwood City, Calif, and Luceford Yandell of Venita, Oklahoma; one sister, Mrs. Effie Bookout of Kirbyville, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday for Bradley Yandell, 20 victim of a gun accident near Cortez on Thursday. The Rev. Harold Hartzler and the Rev. A lifelong resident of Glenwood Springs, the youth was born here March 9, 1940. He attended Wentworth Military academy at Wentworth, Mo., graduating May 30, 1959. He was married here on Dec. 17, 1959, to the former Carolyun Hyde of Carbondale. Surviving in addition to his wife are his mother, Mrs. Viola Yandell, a brother, Alan Yandell; and grandparents, Mrs. Mary Blomgren and Lon Yandell, both of Glenwood Springs. YOUMAN, Mrs. Flora. Services were held here today for Mrs. Flora Ewing Youmans, 87, a former resident of New Castle, who died Friday in Mt. Vista Nursing Home at Wheat Ridge. Rites were to be at 2 PM, in the Congregarional Church with burial in Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Youmans was the widow of Myron Lecroiz Youmans, a New Castle merchant for 28 years. He originally managed a mining company store, later operated his own establishment. The Youmans moved to Denver in 1942. During their residence in New Castle, Mrs. Youmans was active in the Congregational Church, Erika Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, the New Castle Reading Club, and local and state Parent Teacher Assns. Mrs Youmans was born in Kansas Territory on Dec. 27, 1878. At the age of one year, she accompanied her parents to Boulder County, traveling by covered wagon. She attended schools there and the State Normal school at Greeley. Later she taught school near Boulder and at Erie, Colo. The Youmans were married at the Ewing home, seven miles east of Boulder, on Nov. 28, 1907. Mr Youmans died Feb. 22, 1957. Survivors are four sons, John of Pleasant Hill, Calif. Arthur of Vienna, Va., Courtnery of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Howard of Arvada; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth D. Reace of Fowler, Mrs. Mary E. Hudson of Grand Junction and Mrs. Margaret L. Mason, of Medford, Oregon, twenty grandchildren and three great grandchildren. YOUNG, Mrs. Lizzie. Mrs. Lizzie Young, 80 of 286 Cherry Lane, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital after an illness of several years. Born Lizzie Gant of New Castle on Aug. 18, 1892, she spent her childhood there. She married William F. Young at New Castle on April 22, 1915. A farmer, he died in Glenwood Springs in 1867. She was a member of Columbus Friendship Club and Rebekah Lodge. Her hobbies included hand sewing. She is survived by two daughters; Mrs. William (Mae) Miller of Vista, Calif. and Mrs. Albert (Mary) Coulter of 286 Cherry Land; a son, Francis of Carbondale; one brother; one sister; nine grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Funeral services for Lizzie Young will be held Friday at 2 PM in the New Castle Congregational Church with the Rev. William A. Bowden of Grand Junction officiating. David Joseph Zang, 41, a lifetime resident of Silt, died at 8:30 AM, Tuesday in his home following an illness of two years. He was born in Silt on Sept 27, 1922. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church at New Castle. The Rev. Robert I. Durrie will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. ZANG, Judith. Mrs. Judith Mary Zang, 72 of Silt, died at 7:30 AM Friday at her home on Silt Mesa, following a lengthy illness. She was born Judith Mary Toller on June 27, 1898, at Trento, Italy, and spent her childhood there. She moved to Colorado at age 21. She was a 50 year resident of Silt. She married Joseph Zang in Glenwood Springs. Mrs. Zang was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rifle. Survivors include; a son, Leo Zang, of Silt; five daughters; Mrs. Angelina Cretti, Emma Zang, and Gloria Zang, all of Glenwood; Jemma Zang and Mary Zang of Silt; a brother in Italy; and one grandchild. ZARLINGO, Louis. New Castle. Services will be held Thursday for Louis Zarlingo, 71, a life-long resident of the New Castle area, who died early Monday morning following a heart attack. The Rev. He was born here on April 30, 1894, attended schools at Harvey Gap and in New Castle. He married Angeline LeDonne at Glenwood Springs, on March 4, 1914. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Lt. Col. John Zarlingo, Hamilton Air Force Base, Calif., three daughters, Mrs. Josephine Gray, Redwood City, Calif.; Mrs. Herman Buser, New Castle, and Mrs. Ernie Ludwig, Sunnyvale, Calif.; a brother, Ben, Silt; three sisters, Mrs Jennie Manupella and Mrs. Leo Mickeal, both of Rifle, and Mrs. Joseph Costanzo, Silt; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. ZARLINGO, Miss Dorothy. Silt, Miss Dorothy Jean Zarlingo, 27, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Zarlingo of silt, died at 4:10 PM Thursday in a Pueblo Hospital. Born at Silt on Sept. 24, 1932, she spent her childhood here and attended Silt Schools. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church. Surviving in addition to her parents are a brother, Robert, of New Castle. and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Slaven of Grand Junction and Mrs. Gaylord 'Phyllis' Henry of Rifle.
