I was looking for information concerning my PRATT family in Marble, Co. from Rutland County, Vermont. While I found only one article it gave me some very good clues; I will list it first as I'm hoping someone will have access to sources and do a look-up for me. Thank you, Marie LC Film #1320783 Vital Records, Marble Newspapers 1886-1923-Colorado 21-Feb-1914 Miss Maude PRATT, daughter of E. O. PRATT (Eugene Oscar) and sister of Harry D. PRATT, died Thursday afternoon at the Marble Hospital. Death was due to tubercular meningitis. Short services were conducted by the Rev. Oliver KINGMAN Friday afternoon and burial will be at Rutland, Vermont beside her mother (Minerva French and ?)and sister. A married brother (Oscar Eugene) lives at Rutland. Maude was born 2Sep1879 at Ludlow, Vermont and five years ago her mother (Mary LOONEY) died at Denver of tuberculosis. *would someone have access to death index, ect. for c.1909 Denver and look up Mary Looney Pratt for me please* The following entries I have no relation too and copied them hoping they will help someone. "The Crystal River Current" 19Mar1887-A young man, Andress MARTINE, was killed by Navajo Indians near Durango a few days ago. *I copied this because when me grandmother, Charlotte Mary PRATT and her little brothers found out they would be leaving their home in Mt. Holly, Vermont and moving west (Marble, Colo.) their biggest concern was Indians. My gGrandparents assured them there was nothing to worry about, but that was 1915* "Crystal Silver Lance" 5Oct1900-Grant GRIFFIN, an old time colored prospector around Gothic, died recently at Montrose. "Marble City Times" 8Mar1901-Foreman Frank SMITH on the new Marble road construction, was killed by a premature explosion of about 75 pounds of giant powder while being thawed out ready to use. The explosion was abt. 9 o'clock last friday morning and he was given a Christian burial on saturday. He was born in Germany but no one here knows anything about his relations. He could speak several languages and seemed to be a jovial fellow. 29Mar1901-The first nuptial ceremony held in Redstone was under religious auspices of Rev. PRICE who united in marriage Mr. William FARLEY and Mrs. Dora PHILLIPPI on the 14th inst. They will reside on the eastside. "The Marble Booster" 10Jun1911-William G. McMANUS and Miss Maude L. CAREY were united in marriage at 4:30 o'clock last wednesday morning (?) at the Union Church, the Rev. James A. WALTON performing the ceremony. It was the first marriage ceremony ever performed in the Marble Church. The bride is the daughter of Ida B. CAREY. 14Oct1911-George WEAVER, for many years driver of the bus at Carbondale, died suddenly at Carbondale monday. A year ago he suffered an attack of pneumonia and he never quite recovered from it. He was a brother-in-law of Charles LEHOW, the Marble contractor. *I found this interesting that we are only into the year 1911 and they already have a "bus...for several years."* 9Mar1912-Residents of Marble heard with sadness this week of the death at Crested Butte of Willbe, the little son of Commissioner WHALEN. The lad died of scarlet fever. 20Jul1912-Mrs. Agnes KERR, mother of Charles McWILLIAMS, went down to Glenwood the latter part of last week and on saturday was married to John BUCHANAN of Crested Butte, one of the owners of the Marble Trading Company store here. The couple came here the first of the week and it took a $5 bill to buy off a Charivari gang of boys monday night. *"the usual charavari was tendered and the din of bells, drums, pots and pans was kept until after midmight"* 1Mar1913-Announcement is made of the engagement of Professor Aristotile R. AMBROSINI, architect of the Colorado-Yule Marble Company and Miss Dorothy Ethel CLARK, daughter of William CLARK, a rich financier of Chicago, Illinois. The wedding will take place next June in Chicago. 28Jun1913-"A. S. THOMSON, of Marble, at one time editor of the Aspen Times". 19Jul1912-"virulent tuberculosis". 18Oct1913-Terry MULLEN had word wednesday of the sudden death in West Rutland, Vermont of his elder brother, Harry MULLEN, who expired of heart disease. Since Terry has been out in this western country his father also died. ****** "Crystal River Current, 1886" Born last sunday morning at McCLURE's ranch down the river to Mr. and Mrs. A. E. JOHNSON, a daughter. (editor's note-This is the 1st record of a birth in the Crystal Valley) Burt, the Emma saloon keeper shot a short time ago by KEARNEY, has since died of his wounds. ***** 16May1914-News has been received here of the death in Morrisville, Vermont, of John B. RAYMORE, formerly associated with Homer V. KNOUSE in the Engineering department of the Colorado-Yule company here. 25-Jul-1914-The wealthy Mrs. M. J. FRANCIS dropped dead in Carbondale at the dinner table in her home. 19Dec1914-John ROLLMAN, known to many Marble people as "Casey" died at Cushing, Oklahoma, a few days ago and was buried last sunday at Leadville, his old home where his parents reside. Death was from typhoid fever. 13Mar1915-Information reached Grandpa BUDLONG here this week of the birth of a baby daughter to his daughter, Mrs. Truman D. YOUNG, at Wallingford, Vermont. 24Apr1915-John PIAGOS and Nick SCARIN, both formerly of Marble, were killed in the Greek Army in Europe about two years ago. *My mother side is irish, scottish and welsh; on my father's side we are scottish and his father was greek, born 1893 in Athens, Greece.* 24Apr1915-"Jack" SHAND received the sad news a few days ago of the death in Vermont of his brother, James SHAND, who was 28 years old. 25Sep1915-Fred FISHER, a miner, died here last friday night of blood poisoning, the result of injuring his right hand with a piece of rusty wire. A former resident of Aspen, he was buried there. 15Sep1917-Henry MERTENS died Sept. 12 as the result of a auto accident near Redstone. Frank FROST's car stalled on the Hayes Hill, the brakes would not hold it and it rolled down a cliff onto the railroad. Burial was at Homewood, Illinois.
