She was the 4th child of David W. and Phoebe M. Williams. She began her education at Coventry and there completed grade school in 1927. She attended Norwood High School and graduated with the class of 1931 with a scholarship. She was active in 4-H Club work and won several trophies for sewing and cooking. After finishing high school she enrolled as a student at Western State College, Gunnison, Colorado. In 1933 she completed a 2 year course and was eligible to teach in the public schools of Colorado. The years of 1933-34-35 were spent teaching school at Cedar, Colorado, Hastings Mesa, Sanborn Park and Telluride. She then returned to school at Western State and received a life certificate to teach. On November 28, 1936 she was married to Homer G. Ayers at Silverton, Colorado. To this union were born two children, David Geo., 7 ˝ years old and Carol Ann, 4. The family lived at Alma, Colorado, Telluride and Silverton, where Mrs. Ayers was employed as a technician, operator of motion picture machines, also as a miner. During the year 1939-40 Mrs. Ayers taught school at Shenandoah. In 1942 Mr. Ayers found employment at the Puget Sound Navy yard. After a few months Mrs. Ayers joined her husband in Bremerton, Washington, where they lived until her death. She had been in ill health for the past 3 ˝ years. Her sister, May, lived with her in Bremerton and assisted her with her house work. She had undergone an operation of the stomach on June 17, which was unsuccessful and another operation was necessary. Death relieved her shortly afterward. Mrs. Ayers was well liked by everyone who had made her acquaintance and she made many friends in the numerous communities in which she lived. In poor health remained cheerful, trying not to show her suffering. She loved music and the beauties of nature, often taking long walks in the evening to watch the sunset. Mrs. Ayers passed away at the Washington Memorial hospital in Seattle, Washington, on June 27, 1945. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband Homer G. Ayers, one son, David G., and one daughter, Carol Ann, her mother, Mrs. Phoebe Williams, of Norwood, two sisters, Mrs. Jack Bauer of Norwood, and Miss May Williams of Bremerton, Washington, three brothers, William W. Williams of Seattle Washington, Pfc. John F. Williams of the Army Air Force, Tonopah, Nevada and James J. Williams of Norwood, and a host of other relatives and friends. Her father preceded her in death by 11 years. Funeral services were at the church in Norwood Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with Rev. Norman Paul Babcock officiating. The singers were Mesdames W.R. Keck, Herman Moon, Horace Joseph, W. H. Saunders and W. I. Wilson with Mrs. John Hilton at the piano. The pall bearers were Albert Jacobs, Marvin Heldman, Bob Williams, Gordon Barrett, Stanley Oliver and Loy Mock. The community extends sympathy to the bereaved ones.
