Dean Died Aug. 12th 1860 Aged 31 yrs I am at Rest ___ . . ___ Additional notes: The remains of the old gold rush era town of Mt. Vernon lie to the west of highway 8; most of the visible ruins are south of Mt. Vernon Creek. They consist of a few foundations. A small hill rises above the south side of the creek, cresting that is another small hill to the west and a little south. The cemetery sits on this second elevation, offering a great view of the Red Rocks valley to the south, Dakota Hogback, and the plains beyond, as well as the foothills rising to the west perhaps a half mile away. As can be noted from the inscription on the market of Rev. Dean, this is one of the oldest graves in Colorado, gold having been discovered in the Denver area in 1858. ***************************************************************************** Contributed for use by the USGenWeb Project (http://www.usgenweb.org) Archives and by the COGenWeb Project Archives USGenWeb Project NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the internet, data may be used by non-commercial researchers, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
