1901 Bio - Munson, John Yale, Larimer County, Colorado Transcribed by Marta Norton January 30, 2000 The Berthoud Bulletin Newspaper Saturday, September 7, 1901 (The following is a small portion of a big news article about Berthoud. I am only transcribing the bio part). In the following columns we are pleased to give the pictures and personal sketches of a number of the people who assisted in making this beautiful and prosperous county what it is: John Yale Munson In the person of John Y. Muson are embodied the qualities of business ability, personal character and good citizenship. Mr. Munson is from the noted state of Missouri, his birth occurring September 9, 1855, in Cape Girardeau County. His father was Rev. Ashel Munson, a Presbyterian Minister, of whose religious faith our subject accepted. In that county Mr. Munson was raised, receiving his education there and at Westminster College at Fulton, Missouri. While in college his health failed him and upon leaving the institution he came to Colorado. This was in 1877 and he landed at Longmont, a lean figure. Until 1882 he clerked in a store, when he bought out the firm of Snyder & Brill at Old Berthoud, the only store at that place. When the town was moved to its present site he transferred its stock and business to the place also, locating on the lot adjoining the Masonic Hall. A part of the present meat market building is where the business was carried on. In 1891 he sold out his mercantile business. About that time the Bank of Berthoud was instituted and Mr. Munson was cashier. This position he held until 1895 when he left the bank and went into the employ of the Berthoud Farmer’s Milling and Elevator Company as book-keeper, which he still holds. In the meantime Mr. Munson invested in property adjacent to Berthoud. He bought a quarter-section a few miles northwest of here. In public affairs Mr. Munson takes an interest, but only to that extent which all good citizens should. he has been about five years on the Berthoud School Board. Last year he was elected County Commissioner on the Republican ticket by seventeen majority and is serving his constituents in a very satisfactory manner. His majority, though small, is probably indicative of the esteem in which he is held generally-considering the fact that has several years the county has been principally under fusion control. =================================================== Contributed for use by the USGenWeb Archive Project (http://www.usgenweb.org) and by the COGenWeb Archive Project USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organization or persons.
