Bio - Smith, Clark, Larimer County, Colorado Transcribed by Marta Norton January 24, 2000 Berthoud Bulleton Newspaper Saturday, October 19, 1901 Republican Favorites Portraits and Biographical Sketches of the Candidates on the Republican County Ticket. Clark Smith Clark Smith was born at Williamsburg, Clairmont County, Ohio in 1869 and left the land of his birth when he was but one year of age. The year 1871 found him on a farm near Timnath in this county, where he resided until he was 22 years of age. In 1893 he moved to Fort Collins and was bookkeeping in the business establishment of E.R. Barkley for four years. Just prior to moving to Fort Collins, he was married to Miss Dollie Vail of this county. In 1896, he was appointed city clerk of Fort Collins, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Robt. Fedder, to which position he was twice reelected. In 1899 he was elected county treasurer of this county, which position he has since occupied to the credit of himself and the people of Larimer County. When fourteen years of age, Mr. Smith united with the Methodist church and has lived a consistent christian life ever since. Soon after his marriage to Mill Vail, who was at the time a member of the Presbyterian church, he did as all good husbands do, united with the church of his wife’s choice and his since given the church his hearty support and is considered by the members of that congregation, one of its most devoted members. He is also a member of the Knights of Pythias, Woodmen of the World and Fraternal Aid lodges, and ranks high in each of these orders. He is a total abstainer and lends his best influence to the promotion of temperance and good morals, and few men in this community have done more for the cause of temperance in example and sacrifice than has Clark Smith. Politically, he is an old line Republican and nothing more need be said in commendation of his political career. As a faithful and trustworthy public officer, Clark Smith has no superior. Accommodating, congenial and painstaking, he is ever ready to serve his constituents with ability and without partiality or prejudice. His books and records are well kept, and no citizen of Larimer County has had the least concern about the safety of the county’s funds in his hands, nor will they have so long as he retains the position of county treasurer, which we believe an appreciative people will decide that he do for a second term. =================================================== Contributed for use by the USGenWeb Archive Project (http://www.usgenweb.org) and by the COGenWeb Archive Project USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organization or persons.
