New Haven Cemetery, New Haven, Logan County, Colorado http://files.usgwarchives.net/co/logan/cemeteries/newhvn.txt Directions: From Fleming, travel south on Logan Ave., (County Road 79) thirteen miles then turn right past the grain elevator on County Road 8 for about a quarter of a mile and the cemetery will be on your right (north) side of the road. Information compiled by Nona Curtis Aydelott Assisted by Sharrie Aydelott Ellis Donated by Ron Saylor April 2002. This data collected from Cemetery Records, Colorado Health Department, Descendants In the early settlement of the great - plains, communities were separated by the normal distance a covered wagon would travel in one day. So it was with New Haven, but the coming of the railroads were to the north in Fleming and the south at Otis. Then the automobile made major roads in the same areas as the railroads. The normal sequence was a community church, then the church graveyard. Not so with New Haven. First the school was built called "Bellvue School". Then the local preachers were on a circuit where they preached in the AM at one location and traveled to the next for a PM sermon, and sometimes an evening sermon at a third. The school was used also as a church meeting place until about 1914 when the church was built and a cemetery started. With the modern ease of transportation the school, and church has disappeared, leaving a cemetery alone on the plains to help preserve the memories of our pioneers who settled here. There are seventeen known graves. The first person buried in the cemetery was Joseph Floyd Edgar in 1915 The last person buried in the cemetery was Henry Forest Curtis in 1953, in 1961 he was moved to the Fleming Cemetery with his wife. Not all the graves are marked and some just have metal markers with no names or dates. There are only five tombstones in the cemetery. At a meeting on 23 May 1943 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Curtis the New Haven Cemetery Association was formed with the election of officers. President Henry F. Curtis Vice - President John W.
