Dyer Shannon Dyer was born in Mancos on June 7, 1921, to Harry and Alta Dyer. He died November 11, 2001, in San Diego, Calif. Shannon graduated from Mancos High School in 1940 and moved to San Diego to join his brother Bob in 1941. He was working for Convair at the start of WWII. After the war, he went to work in the cement business, eventually starting his own cement construction business in Phoenix, Ariz., where he moved with his wife Peggy and daughter Patty in the early 1960s. S.J. Dyer Cement Co. went on to be a successful business for many years and is still operating today. After retiring, he moved to Texas with his second wife Teri and children, Danielle and Terry, where he joined his nephew in the spa business, eventually moving the business and family back to San Diego in the early 1970s. He remained in San Diego until his death. He is survived by his children: Patty Milani and husband Joe of Petaluma, Calif.; Terry Dyer and wife Renee of Spring Valley, Calif. and Danielle Popp of Carlsbad, Calif.; his grandchildren: Jason Varner of San Francisco, Calif.; Shannon Robles of Santa Rosa, Calif.; Jennifer and Annie Popp of Carlsbad, Calif., and Jett and Delaney Dyer of Spring Valley, Calif.; and sister Louise Carpenter of Santa Fe, N.M. He is 3Uncle Shannon2 to many nieces and nephews! At his request, there were no services, but family and friends gathered at his hom to share memories and refreshments on Friday, Nov. 16. In the spring, his children will bring his urn back for burial in the Dyer family plot at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Mancos. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Mancos Visitor Center Arbor Fund, P.O.
