Mike was born at Wausau, Wis., Oct. 19, 1943, the son of Dr. Neal Eugene and Caryl Seville (Crawford) Fleming. He passed away at his home in Mancos Friday, April 18, 2003, at the age of 59. Moving to the Mancos Valley in 1990, Mike became an integral part of the community. He was president of the board of directors of the Mancos Valley Bank, treasurer for the board of directors of the Valley Inn Nursing Home and Cedar Ridge Nursing Home of Farmington, was a board member of the Mancos Volunteer Fire Department, and served on the Jackson Lake Water Board. Mike was a 10-year member of the Vern Koppenhafer Cattle Drive and in 2000 was named Mancos Citizen of the Year. He also held the title of captain of the Mancos, Colo. Golf Team in Tomahawk, Wis. Surviving Mike are his beloved wife, Carole Louise (Newill) Fleming of Mancos; his son, Dr. Neal Jeffery Fleming of St. Paul, Minn.; his daughter Theresa Caryl and husband, Michael Sholders, of Dixon, Ill; two brothers: Joseph Eugene Fleming and wife, Lynda, of Dixon, and Stephen Jeffrey Fleming and wife, Glenda, of Amboy, Ill.; and sister, Patricia Caryl Lillyman and husband, Thomas, of Dixon. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Mike Fleming’s name with the Mancos Valley Bank to benefit the Mancos Volunteer Fire Department.
