Skinner, Sr., an old resident, who lived 4 miles north of Mancos. Mr. Skinner had a fatal stroke of paralysis about two years ago which left him in a feeble condition from which he never fully recovered. About five o'clock on the morning of June 16th, Mrs. Skinner was awakened by a noise of heavy breathing and found him in an apparently unconscious condition. Help was immediately summoned, but after an hour of suffering he passed away. Wm. Starkey Skinner was born in England in 1846. His mother died when he was a child and his grandparents brought him to America and raised him. He has lived in Colorado about twenty- seven years. He was married twice. The children by his first marriage are: John, of Smith Centre, Kansas; Mrs. Susie McGowen of Durango; Mrs. W.H. Lambert of Mancos; Wm. Skinner and Mrs. Sadie Rapp of Reamsville, Kansas, and Charles Skinner of White City, Kansas. By his second marriage: Mrs. Mabel Vanderlin of El Vado, New Mexico; Mrs. Ruth Pasley of Durango; Mrs. Ada Aul of San Diego, California, and Lloyd and Edna who still reside with their mother, and one step-daughter, Mrs. Mamie Lambert of Mancos. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Otis Keltcher at the home Friday, June 18th, at 1 P.M. The sermon was preached from Psalms 90th chapter and 12th. Those of the children present were Mrs. Pasley, Mrs. W.H. Lambert, Mrs. Mamie Lambert and Lloyd and Edna. The remains were taken to Mancos and laid to rest in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mr. Skinner united with the Adventist church some years ago and was reclaimed in a revival held at Pinewood by the writer in the fall of 1911. He gave clear evidence of his conversion during his last days. He was a soldier in the Civil War enlisting at an early age. Those who mourn him have the sympathy of the entire community.
