MONTROSE.

    Montrose is the county seat of Montrose county. It is located in the
    Uncompahgre valley at an altitude of 5,780 feet, and is finely situated
    for a residence, commercial and manufacturing city. Has shipped several
    hundred cars of cattle during the past year, as well 'as large quantities
    of various kinds of fruits, for which the soil of the surrounding country
    is especially well adapted. Good schools and churches, water works and
    electric light. It is on the D. & R. G. R. It is the terminus of the Ouray
    branch railroad.
    Population 4,200.
