Buckskin Cemetery, Alma, Park County, Colorado Buckskin Cemetery Alma, Colorado By Pat and Fred Harris, Placer Valley, Alma, Colorado Email August 22, 2000 Buckskin Cemetery is located about 1.2 miles west of the Town of Alma just off Park County Rd. 10. Turn right just past the #1 Wagon wheel marker onto a dirt road, which parallels Co. Rd. 10, to the entrance of the cemetery. There is a sign which reads, "Established for the use of Alma residents by President T. Roosevelt on March 21, 1902. Patent No. 1638". The cemetery is completely wooded, and graves are located without apparent organization. Burial there is free, so many from areas other than Alma have taken advantage of this largesse and have had family members buried there. For the most part, however, gravesites are for former residents. Some grave markers predate the dedication of the land by President Roosevelt. Some graves are marked only by funeral- home markers; many graves are marked only with 2 sticks tied to create a crude cross, and others are unmarked. Inscriptions on the tombstones are indicated in normal type following the name; descriptions of the marker and any information supplied by others are described in notes. An asterisk (*) denotes persons who have been buried there but for whom there are no markers. This information was obtained from burial records kept by the cemetery sexton, Erik Swanson of Alma or from relatives of the deceased. Information indicated with a [1] was also provided by Erik Swanson. A [2] denotes information given by long time Alma residents. Additional information may be obtained by contacting Mr. Swanson at P.O. Box 27, Alma, CO 80420. The cemetery is divided into 4 sections (A, B, C & D) with a road which roughly circles through the cemetery. Taking the road to the right as you enter, Section A is to the right of that road. Section B stretches across the top of the cemetery and above the road. Section C is the larger center portion of the area, and section D is to the left of the road as you enter at the front gate. A rudimentary map of the cemetery may be obtained at the Town Hall in Alma. ========================================== Adrian, Blanche H., 1905-1972; (Section B) Notes: Wife of Orville Adrian.
