The Lincoln Land Company are booming the town. Things will be lively next week. The Holyoke boom is at last here. People for miles around have been eagerly awaiting and anxiously inquiring the time when lots would be put on the market. That time has now come and there will be a big rush for lots next Wednesday afternoon. The HERALD job office department has printed four thousand posters this week for the Lincoln Land Company, which are being distributed along the railroads. Holyoke will be a trade center, and will draw trade for twenty miles from each direction. OLD SETTLERS' MEETING There seemed to be some misunderstanding as to where the gathering was to be, but along towards noon some five hundred people gathered at T.B. Carnahan's. The afternoon was fine. The meeting was called to order by T.B. Carnahan. Perry Moore was chosen president; Mr. Reynolds, vice-president and Grant Rice, secretary. Some able addresses were made by Messrs Kellogg, Castetter, Reynolds, Williams and Moore. At the close of the speeches a permanent organization was effected and a standing committee consisting of Messrs Carnahan, Austin, Shamp, Heller, Summers and Adland was appointed to provide for the reunion next year at Holyoke. A platform for dancing was provided and many of the young people availed themselves of the opportunity. Charles Moore and Wendall Morgan sold ice cream, lemonade and cake for the church. Somewhere about $80 was raised for the good cause. People came from long distances to attend this meeting on the prairie. Next year they will meet in the city of Holyoke. A COLORADO RAIN People of the east are generally of the opinion that Colorado is a dry state, and, of course, we had been thought to believe the same but last Monday night we were convinced that it does sometimes rain in Colorado. Long about the quiet hour of midnight we were aroused from our peaceful slumbers by the beating rain against our office. The rain came down in torrents. It soon began to run through the cracks and under the sides of the building, and finally we found ourselves floating around on our blankets. The lighter material soon began to bump and butt each other, and at last the 1,000 pound jobber toppled on its foundation and rose to the top of the water. The next morning it was bright and clear. Now when we hear a person say it don't rain in Colorado, we will tell him he don't know anything about it.
