Dawson of Vermillion, South Dakota has been in Holyoke this week looking after real estate interests. G.W. Garland has resigned as chairman of the republican county committee and S.H. Johnson has been appointed. Mr. Garland gave as his reason for resigning the fact that he was kept so busy with his business that he had no time to devote to the duties of such a position. Patrick returned to Holyoke Monday from California for a visit with the home folks. Ira Kepler returned Tuesday from Los Angeles, California where he had spent the winter. He says southern California is a nice place to live if a man has plenty of money but thinks that it would be rather hard times for the man who went there expecting to earn his living by work. The result of the town election Tuesday was to make Holyoke antisaloon territory by a vote of 85 to 18. The issue of water works bonds carried by vote of 40 to 7. There was but one ticket for town officers and only a few scattering votes were cast against the ticket. The vote was light as there were 246 voters registered and only 108 votes cast. Mr. and Mrs. John Tappan and daughter, Miss Mary, left Holyoke Monday and expect to make their home on the coast in Oregon. Mrs. Tappan and daughter will visit for a time at Lodgepole, Nebraska, and Mr. Tappan goes to Oregon to look for a location. We regret very much to see this worthy couple and daughter leave our town. They have made many friends in our town and county and will be much missed and especially so in church circles where they were always active workers. Ad - Burlington Route. GO SOMEWHERE. Colver, Ticket Agent, Holyoke, Colorado. Roy Sutherland is now manager of his father’s lumber yard at Haxtun. He spent Saturday and Monday in charge of the Holyoke yard during the absence of his father. On Thursday of last week a meeting of the parties interested in the different telephone lines of the county was held at the court house for the purpose of considering the question of either purchasing or building a building to be used as the telephone central office. The sense of the meeting on the question, as expressed in a resolution, was that the telephone companies should own a building for the central office. A committee of five, S.S. Worley, E.E. Worley, J.S. Shockey, Henry Mitchel and J.T. Jenkins was appointed to investigate the matter of purchasing or constructing a building and report to another telephone meeting to be held at the court house on Saturday afternoon, May 2. BEACHVILLE Earle Funkhouser returned last week from York, Nebraska, where he has been attending college for some time. Miss Ida Ellis and Earnest Hageman and two sons visited a few days with friends in Julesburg. Mrs. Lounsbury and Mrs. Wright spent Sunday with Mrs. Frank Austin. Ed Kenney spent Sunday afternoon at Fred Woodhams. Wonder why? Ask him who said the school marm was boarding there? Miss Katherine Meeneke, teacher of the Prairie Center school, will give an entertainment April 17. Prairie Center school is located one mile east of Fred Woodhams. Friend Boyer, a first-class painter, has been painting Willie Woodhams house in the north part of the county. A.B. Clark is able to be out at this writing.
