Mrs. William Arens returned last week from a visit in Illinois. The town council at the meeting last Monday evening selected as the location for the additional well for the water works a point near the present well. One strong reason for selecting this location instead of one in the business part of town was the fact that unless the well was located near the present well, in case the present well or pump should for any reason fail to work, the engine now in use would not be in position to pump from the other well and this condition would have called for another engine. Dr. Struble spent a couple of days in Haxtun this week. Edward Anderson of Haxtun spent Wednesday in Holyoke. R.N. White made a business trip to Denver this week. At the telephone meeting in Holyoke last Saturday the shareholders present voted to purchase from Charles Harris the building and two lots now occupied by Mr. Harris as a dwelling and as the central office of the telephone lines, the price to be paid for the property being $1,000. It was also decided to raise the money for paying for the property by an assessment on each telephone share. This purchase settles the question of the permanent location of the central office and the work of improving the lines within the corporation limits will soon be commenced.
