Painter, Editor and Publisher 17 Jan 1908, Vol. 21 - No. 25 Page Four Attorney Zimmerman was in Sterling Wednesday on business. Mrs. William McKinney of Sterling visited in Holyoke last Saturday. J.W. Young has been harvesting another crop of ice this week. G.W. Shuler made a business trip to Julesburg the first of the week. John Heginbotham is having a heating plant put in his dwelling house. Frank Olson and Hans Johnson of Haxtun were in Holyoke Saturday on business. A.M. Axelson and Dr. Ford of Haxtun were transacting business in Holyoke Monday. Miss Grace Mowry returned Wednesday from a visit with her sister in Denver. W.H. Lyman made a trip to Denver last week returning Wednesday of this week. A little daughter arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Noble Show on Monday January 13. Emil Larson of Haxtun was in Holyoke Tuesday and made the Herald office a call. Mert Morse from Silver City, Iowa has leased the Noblet building on Inter Ocean Avenue and will put in a bakery. Mrs. John Crater took the train at Holyoke Tuesday for a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Daniels, of Lincoln, Nebraska. R.N. White has been confined to his home for some time but expects to be able for work in his office again soon. C.W. Black has closed his pool room for the time and Shepard & Slack who own the building will occupy it as a meat market. Otto Fulscher has sold his residence property in Holyoke to William Jasper from Plainview, Nebraska, who will occupy it as a home. Mrs. G.B. Weir and little son returned Saturday from a visit at Kearney, Nebraska. Her daughter, Miss Bertha, who has been staying at Kearney, returned with her for a visit with the home folks. Ed Plog from Hartington, Nebraska arrived in Holyoke last week with an emigrant car and has commenced the construction of an 8 room dwelling on the land in this county purchased by him some time ago from the Button Land Company. BEACHVILLE Will Sowders of Wyoming, and John Sowders of Julesburg, spent a few days visiting their old friend, George Utesler and other friends in this vicinity. Royce Waln had the misfortune of having a runaway which resulted in a broken ankle. Edward Sam is working for F.A. Woodhams. Charley Arens who has been on the sick list is reported better at this time. The Kenney brothers have been shelling corn for several of the neighbors. Anyone wishing a first-class shell should call on them. Walter Ellis is having a well put down on his new place in the southeast part of this vicinity. -- Hezekiah W.D. Kelsey was in Sterling Thursday. Professor W.L. Bailey, formerly Principal of the Phillips County High School, but now Principal of the high school of Lake City, recently advanced his subscription a year on the Herald and asked us to give his best regards to the Holyoke people. The bachelors of Holyoke and Phillips County do not seem to be up to date in some respects. Now the Sterling bachelors have recently organized a matrimonial association. That certainly shows up to date enterprise especially during a leap year. Wake up, boys, and don’t let the Sterling bachelors surpass you in enterprise.
