Painter, Editor and Publisher 31 Jul 1908, Friday, Vol. 22 - No. 1 Page One BURCHETT - FAIR At the Baptist parsonage in Holyoke, Colorado on Wednesday July 22, Rev. J.T. Jenkins officiating, Claud Burchett and Miss Grace Fair were married. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mr. L.E. Fair who were among the earliest settlers of the county and are highly respected by a large acquaintance. She is a bright and intelligent young lady and is highly thought of by many friends. Claud Burchett is one of the enterprising and industrious young farmers of the county and, for the short time he has lived in the county, has made many friends. The young people have the best wishes of the Herald. BEACHVILLE Mrs. H.C. Chase has been very ill for a few days. She was visiting with her sister, Mrs. I.H. Saylor, in this vicinity at the time she was taken sick, is yet unable to return to her home. A number of Beachvilleites and Centerites went fishing the first of the week and report a splendid catch. Royce Waln drove through this vicinity one day the first of the week. Welcome back to Beachville Royce, come again. Vernie Steals is helping C.C. Lounsbury head wheat this week. Mrs. John Baker, an old time resident of Sedgwick county and her adopted daughter who has been visiting with friends and looking after business matters in Prairie Center, departed the first of the week for their home in Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Clark and Mrs. Crater visited with Mrs. Coldwell’s one day this week. Lige Goddard had a house moved up from the south divide to his place in this vicinity the first of the week. Hay making is now on the program. It makes people realize summer is fast dying. -- Beauty Page Four B.A. Howard left Wednesday morning for a visit at Omaha. Champ Donnelly of Blair, Nebraska is visiting relatives in the county. Samuel Warren of the Haxtun country was in Holyoke Wednesday. Ed Donnelly of Ault came down last week for a short visit with relatives. Ira Gray and Roy Chaney of the Haxtun country were in Holyoke Tuesday. August Rehfeld is building a new dwelling house on his land near Holyoke. Hans Johnson, the well maker of Haxtun, was in Holyoke Monday on business. Mrs. Estella Summers returned Tuesday from Boulder where she had been attending a term of summer school. Mrs. Harry Trego left for Sterling Monday evening for a few days visit with her daughter, Mrs. L.C. Fair. Misses Leah Stetter and Belle Hamilton returned Monday from attendance on a term of summer school at Boulder. Norman Harvey and granddaughter, Norma, came up to Holyoke Wednesday eve and remained over night. Mrs. Lena Smith of New York arrived in Holyoke last week for a visit with her father, J.H. Zoll, and other relatives. The material is being placed on the ground for a cement walk on two sides of the Presbyterian church property in Holyoke. Miss Marian Lewis of Bow Bells, North Dakota visited a few days recently with the family of her cousin, E.K. Lewis of Holyoke. J.W. Webermeier’s new dwelling house on his farm east of Holyoke will have 11 rooms and will be one of the largest and best houses in the county. Work has commenced on the new dwelling of M.D. Copp in the southeastern part of town, and, when completed, he will have a large and very desirable dwelling house. Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Johnson of Haxtun were in Holyoke Thursday. Mrs. O.H. Helland of Haxtun came down Thursday to visit with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Seibert left Holyoke Wednesday for Grant, Nebraska where he has accepted a position as salesman in a store. Miss Ida Maddock left Wednesday morning for a visit with the home folks at Hastings, Nebraska. Miss Ethel Show accompanied her for a visit at Hastings. I.M. Kepler, who recently went from Holyoke to Los Angeles, has gone into business. He is president of the CalaMyrna Manufacturing Company, manufacturers of carpets and rugs. Page Five Charley Sears returned this week with the three trotting horses owned by White & Sears with which he has been attending the race meets at different points in this state and Nebraska. Charley Fiedler, 8 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fiedler of this county died on Thursday July 30 from rheumatism of the heart. He had been troubled for some time with his heart and a few days ago became much worse. The funeral will be conducted from the home this afternoon.
