Painter, Editor and Publisher 12 Jun 1908, Friday, Vol. 21 - No. 46 Page One LYMAN - MOWRY At the home of the bride’s parents in Holyoke, Colorado on Tuesday, June 9th, 1908, Rev. J.T. Jenkins officiating, Miss Jennie Grace Mowry and William Henry Lyman both of Holyoke were united in marriage. The ceremony was witnessed by a number of the relatives and intimate friends of the family. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Mowry who are numbered among the earliest settlers and most highly respected residents of the county. She has grown from childhood to a young woman in our county, was educated in our town and high school, is an intelligent and accomplished young lady and has a host of friends in the town and county. William Lyman is one of Holyoke’s enterprising and successful business men. He located in Holyoke about a year ago in the jewelry business and has succeeded in building up quite a good business. He has, during his short residence in our town, won the respect and esteem of all who have made his acquaintance. There were present at the wedding from other points, Miss May Mowry of Denver, Mr. and Mrs. Q.V. Lamb of Grant, Nebraska, Mrs. C.G. Coglizer and two sons of Weeping Water, Nebraska, Mrs. T.C. Kunkel and sons and C.F. Lyman of Venango, Nebraska. The young couple took the eastbound train for Lincoln, Nebraska soon after the ceremony at which and other points they will visit before returning home. A large number of their young friends were at the depot to wish them a happy wedding trip and the way the rice flew about was lively and the labels placed on their baggage would very naturally attract more attention than that of the ordinary traveler. The Herald wishes for them a prosperous and happy life. GOODVILLE NEWS Crops are looking fine in this vicinity. Dan Ellis was calling Sunday, but on account of the rain he didn’t get home until Monday morning. Dan doesn’t need calling cards. Mrs. Wright and Johnnie visited Holyoke Saturday. Ed Kennie and Mrs. Hiatt called on Freemyer Sunday. Free are the minds and at ease are some of the hearts in Goodville and Beachville for the school marm has departed never to return. Frank Kennie visited at Wright’s Saturday. We are glad to see him get that far from home again. Maud Hiatt visited at Wrights Saturday. Wright’s new buggy is showing up fine, of course this rainy weather takes the shine off. Any one reading the Beachville news would think there was but one family in Beachville, but that is a mistake. Ed Kenney chased a lady for a quarter of a mile and didn’t catch her. She was only a picture he had cut out of a paper. Don’t worry, Ed, we hope you will not have such a hard time to catch the real thing. Hezekiah stated that the ducks were gathering in Goodville but she did not say anything of the geese that are going south, not very far south, for it is too early in the season, but they quack terribly while the ducks are quiet and invisible. -- SANDCHERRY SUE Mr. and Mrs. Gene LeBlanc, who had been visiting his parents in Holyoke for a week, left Monday for their home at Bridgeport, Nebraska, where Gene and his brother, Ernest, have built up a good paying business in clothing and gents furnishing goods. Why not put down a good well at the cemetery. With a well and good pumping plant a very marked improvement could soon be made in the appearance of the cemetery. Such a well and pumping plant can be put in without costing any one very much and would be a great source of satisfaction to all of our people. Mrs. Anna McKee and son, Leslie, left Holyoke Tuesday for Boulder where they expect to make their home. Lawrence will remain in Holyoke a short time before leaving for Boulder. The family have resided in Holyoke for a number of years and their leaving our town is much regretted by a host of friends. Mrs. McKee still owns her residence property in Holyoke and may decide later to return again. MARRIED - Mr. James Ovens and Miss Josephine Jeffers of Somerset, Nebraska, arrived in Holyoke on the C.B. & Q. Train on the evening of June 3, and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Green. The writer spent a very pleasant visit with them about seven p.m. The next morning Mr. and Mrs. James Ovens left on the train for their home in Somerset. May favorable winds fill their sails and the waves be kind to them in their lifes voyage. -- J.T. Jenkins Misses Celeste Donnelly and Jessie Gerrish have been engaged by the Holyoke school board for another year. In the intermediate and primary departments of the Holyoke school. These ladies have given good satisfaction in their school work in the past and this fact assures us good work in these departments during the coming school year. Prof. Lee R. Briggs has been employed by the high school board for another year as principal of the Phillips County High School. The work done in the high school during the past year has given good satisfaction and the board has made no mistake in employing Prof. Briggs for another year. Mud holes in the street do not harmonize very well with as fine sidewalks as we now have. Mr. and Mrs. George Wash and children from Ottawa, Kansas arrived in Holyoke Tuesday and will again take up their residence in this county. There is no place like Phillips County for a good many people judging by the number that return after leaving the county. U. Worley of Dorchester, Nebraska and his brother Hiram of Mercer, Pennsylvania arrived in Holyoke Wednesday from a trip to the Pacific coast and will visit with S.S. Worley, son of U. Worley. They were in San Francisco at the time of the great naval parade and display by the U.S. Fleet. Examination in the town and high school began Wednesday morning. This delay was occasioned by the cases of scarlet fever in town. The cases of fever have been closely quarantined and the disease now is thoroughly under control and there is now no longer any danger from the disease. BEACHVILLE Don’t be afraid of the truth, wherever it strikes you. Mrs. Will Cheramy spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Ellis. Be careful Ed, F.T. goes to Goodville quite often now days. Some attraction there. Jess Kenney spent a few days over the river last week. The liar does not become a moral athlete by his mental gymnastics. Ms. Harry Sprague visited with her sister Stella Shockey. Land seems to be on the rise these windy days. Nellie and Dola Johnson visited with their uncle, Frank Austin, Saturday. Ed says Kate has gone with a handsomer man. School closed in Goodville last Friday. Miss Meineke gave a very interesting program which everyone seemed to enjoy.
