Painter, Editor and Publisher 13 Mar 1908, Friday, Vol. 21 - No. 33 Page One In putting down a well for H.A. Hyatt near Paoli this county, William Stout found, at a depth of 150 feet from the surface, petrified bones which were evidently the bones of some good sized animal. According to this the time was when the surface of what is now Phillips County was at least 150 ft. lower than at present. S.E. Allen of Haxtun came down Tuesday and began work on the plastering of Otto Fulscher’s new house. DIED - At the home of her parents in Holyoke on Wednesday, March 11th Eva Millicent, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Whitney. She was taken with a severe attack of pneumonia and lived only 12 days. Will publish obituary in next issue. The funeral will be conducted from the home today at 2 o’clock p.m. Many new settlers are moving into our county this spring. E.N. McPherrin spent Sunday with his wife and baby in Denver. Page Four C.E. Olmsted is having a neat picket fence built on his residence property in Holyoke. The Olmsted Brothers have rented their farm northwest of town to Harry Baine and will sell their stock at public sale on March 24. Mr. Ferguson who for the past year has had a position in the Cramer barber shop has decided to move to his farm near Holyoke and engage in farming. Miss Lizzie Wallace from Marshall, Illinois, a dressmaker of considerable experience, has accepted a position with the O. Canaday Mercantile Co., of Holyoke. BEACHVILLE Elijah Goddard, Ernest Hageman and George Utesler made a trip to Sterling last week Elijah Goddard was called home from Sterling Thursday by the death of his little daughter. The youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Trego is quite sick. Mrs. Heller and daughter, Clara, Mrs. Utesler, Jess Kenney, Mr. and Mrs. Richardson, Mrs. Jennie Cramer, Mrs. Hayes and daughter, Essie, from Beachville attended the funeral services of Mrs. Guernsey. Mrs. Sprague is very sick at this writing. Miss Emma Anderson spent Sunday with Miss Anna Cheramy. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Caldwell spent Sunday at Mr. Lounsbury’s. Mrs. George Utesler spent Saturday with her sister, Mrs. Fred Woodhams. A.B. Clark is quite sick this week. Esther Lindgren had a large gash cut in her forehead Saturday caused by a harrow falling on her. Mr. Heller is quite sick. George Utesler killed two geese one day last week. In memory of Belle, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elija Goddard, who departed this life March 5, age 4 months and 24 days. [a LONG poem - not copied] -- Hezekiah. Haver returned last week from Omaha where she had been to purchase her spring stock of goods for her millinery store in Holyoke. A fine boy arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Kepler on Sunday March 8. MILLINERY OPENING I have purchased a large and well selected stock of spring millinery and expect to be able to satisfy both as to quality of goods and price, any and all who desire to purchase. I will have a millinery opening on Friday and Saturday March 21 and 22. A souvenir will be presented to each family represented at the opening.
