Yours For Business, LeBlanc & Scheunemann Henry Thaw’s application to be released from the insane asylum has been refused by the court on the ground that to give him his liberty would endanger the safety of the public. The law firm of Bennett & Kelsey recently filed with the county clerk of the county a claim of $1,100 against the county for attorney fees in the collection of the back bond interest tax, penalty and interest of the Burlington R.R. Co, amounting to $1,100. The Burlington officials claim that no collection fee was earned on the payment of this back tax as it was paid as soon after the county bond case was decided as their tax agent, Mr. Pollard, could ascertain the exact amount due the county from the company. During the recent term of the district court in this county, Attorney Vail of Denver appeared before the court and secured a temporary order restraining the county commissioners from allowing the claim against the county. We understand that the plant of the Phillips County Republican has been sold to J.C. Crist of Sterling who takes possession June 1. We understand that the paper will from this on be democratic in politics. DISTRICT COURT Judge Burke finished the work of the May term of district court on last Friday. In the case of the People vs George Freemyer, the defendant plead guilty to assault and battery and was fined $50 and costs. In the People vs Lowry, charge forgery, the defendant plead guilty and the sentence was suspended, the court requiring the defendant to pay $400 to cover costs. In the People vs Montgomery, charge adultery, dismissed on ground that state failed to make case. In Gilbert vs Flanagan, damage, tried to court, judgment for plaintiff for $364 and costs. In Vance vs Dee, damages, case was dismissed on motion of defendant. A large number of equity cases were disposed of during the term. Frame barn 16 X 16. Terms, Cash. -- O.H. Sholes. G.M. Hitt, Auct. The big fire at Wray on Sunday night May 17, was a heavy loss to some of the business men of the town. The property destroyed is valued at $60,000 with only about $16,000 insurance. Siston Clothing Company, in which S.S. Dow, well known in Holyoke, held an interest was one of the heavy losers. The company had erected a new brick building last year and was carrying a heavy stock of goods. The loss was $20,000 and insurance $14,000. The Wray voters recently voted down a proposition to issue bonds for a water works system. If the question were submitted to then since this disastrous fire, it is not very likely that they would vote it down. It does not pay the business men of any town to take chances of doing business without good fire protection. GOODVILLE NEWS Listen to the wind blow. Who said E.T. does not go west?
