IN MEMORIAM Jacob Henry Millage was born in Tioga County, New York August 20 1840 and died November 22, 1908 at Holyoke, Colorado aged 68 years 3 months and 2 days. At Waterloo, Iowa, in 1864, he was united in marriage with Miss Carrie Dickerson. To them were born eleven children, five of whom, four sons and one daughter, survive them. His wife passed away May 8, 1897 at Wakonda, South Dakota. He married Mrs. Ida Shaw, May 31, 1898, who survives him. They resided on their farm in South Dakota until 4 years ago last spring when they located in Phillips County. Since then he has devoted his time to farming and stock raising on his ranch southwest of town. About a year and a half ago he was taken with a cancer on his lip which he had removed but of no avail it reappeared again. He has suffered intensely but borne his pain patiently having undergone two severe operations. He is at rest after, as he said, “many wear days.” The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Rulison assisted by Rev. Jenkins. The funeral sermon was preached from the text in James - What is your life? It is even as a vapor that appeareth for a little time then vanisheth away.” OBITUARY Rosa Schultz, daughter of Paul and Margaretha Schultz, was born at Sutton, Nebraska, March 12, 1902. The joy of all who knew her this living rose was nipped in the bud, leaving this life November 20, 1908, at the age of 6 years, 8 months and 8 days. The immediate cause of death was acute nephritis. Rev. Leitz spoke words of consolation in both German and English language. She leaves her bereaved parents and a number of brothers and sisters to sorrow over her departure -- Rev. W.O. Leitz. OBITUARY One of the saddest funerals in our experience was that of Fred Kropp who was laid to rest on the 24, inst. Deceased was born at Brownstown, Jackson County, Indiana, June 26, 1868. Later he removed to Eastern Nebraska where he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Petau. Some two years ago he took a homestead near Amherst hoping to provide a home for his family. God, however, had decreed that his sojourn in Colorado be of short duration. After a long sickness during which he was delivered from his sufferings on the morning of Sunday the 20, inst. What makes this case particularly sad is the fact that he had nothing to leave for the support of his widow and seven children. But we have already experienced that the people of Phillips County know what charity and liberality are; their gifts have surpassed our highest expectations. Therefore, we wish to thank very cordially all those who have opened their hearts and hands for these people and our prayer and hearts desire shall be forever that God will reward them in time and eternity. Besides his wife and children the deceased leaves an aged mother at Brownstown, Indiana, a sister at Indianapolis, Indiana and three brothers, two of whom have been able to attend the burial to shed tears over his seemingly untimely departure, a sister-in-law, and Mrs. Kropp’s aged father who have made their home here, share the grief of the family, besides a number of distant relatives not known to the undersigned. A short service was held at the house in the English language and a German service at the Baptist church; the text chosen is recorded Gen. 48, 21. His body is now at rest awaiting the resurrection of the body when body and soul will be with Christ in the realms of bliss forever. Once more invoking God’s manifold blessings upon all those who have dealt kindly with this family we close our remarks with the grateful desire that yours may be a departure in faith and that you will be rewarded in the resurrection of the just. -- William O. Leitz. TELEPHONE MEETING There will be a meeting of the stockholders of the Phillips County Telephone Company at the court house on Saturday December 5, 1908 at 2 p.m. All members are requested to be present as there is important business to transact. -- John Heginbotham Miss May Mowry of Denver spent Thanksgiving day with her parents Mr. and Mrs. C.M.
