Dean Irwin went to Denver Monday to take a course in a business college. Miss Ester Crater returned last week from a visit with her sister in Cincinnati, Ohio. S.H. Johnson and family left Holyoke Tuesday for their new home in Topeka, Kansas. W.A. White is building a dwelling house on his farm in the southern part of the county. Mrs. George Clark and little daughter left Holyoke Tuesday for a visit at her old home in Iowa. R.A. Holmes left Holyoke Tuesday for a month’s visit at his old home in Harrison County, Missouri. Mrs. White of Mount Hope, Wisconsin is visiting the family of her brother-in-law Robert White of Holyoke. Mr. and Mrs. T.M. Lane and children returned Saturday from a visit with relatives at Billings, Montana. Miss Gertrude Shell of Skidmore, Missouri has accepted a position as trimmer in the Millinery store of Mrs. J.W. Haver. The Burlington crew of painters gave the company buildings in Holyoke a fresh coat of paint the first of the week. Bert Lewis, an architect of Chicago and his brother, Harry, of Osage, Iowa are visiting their brother, E.K. of Holyoke. John Gathe of Pocatello, Idaho, who had been visiting the family of his brother Will of Holyoke, left Monday for his home. The Central Lumber Company has sold the company office building to the Denver Creamery and will replace it with a new building. Miss Cora Kelsey, daughter of Judge and Mrs. W.D. Kelsey, went to Denver Monday to resume her studies in the Denver University. Professor Briggs, principal of the high school, returned to Holyoke last week from his vacation spent at the home in Missouri. The Dallstream frame building on the corner of Denver and Inter Ocean Avenues is being taken down and a better building will take its place in the near future. Rev. and Mrs. G.A. Spence and children left Holyoke Monday evening for Longmont to attend the annual conference of the Methodist church. Mrs. S.T. Thompson accompanied them. Dr. Grace Stratton of Salt Lake City who has been visiting her uncle, M.D. Copp of Holyoke, left Monday for her home. She was on her return trip from a visit in states east of here. Miss Reid from Greeley, who has been employed as assistant principal of the Phillips County High School, arrived in Holyoke Tuesday to be ready for the opening of the fall term of school next Monday. E.E.T. Hazen, government weather reporter, informs us that the precipitation of moisture for August at the government station in this county was 4.24 inches and for the year to date 16.82 inches. J.W. Young shipped in a car of ice this week. Mrs. Leon Kepler entertained the Methodist ladies at her home on Friday of last week and a very enjoyable afternoon is reported. Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Irwin returned this week from Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Misses Mina Slack and Florence Irwin returned last week from a visit in Iowa. MILLINERY OPENING I have received a large and well selected stock of fall millinery and will hold my millinery opening on Friday and Saturday, September 11 and 12. I have secured the services of Miss Gertrude Shell of Skidmore, Missouri and experienced trimmer. Do not forget the date. Come and inspect my goods. -- Mrs. J.W. Haver JUDICIAL CONVENTION J.S. Bennett attended the meeting of the judicial committee of the district one day last week with the proxy of committeeman L.P. Foster. The judicial convention was called for September 11 at Fort Morgan for the purpose of placing in nomination a candidate for district attorney. Phillips County will have 3 delegates in the convention. TO THE VOTERS OF PHILLIPS COUNTY I have been informed that a story, presumedly for campaign purposes, is being circulated that I am an Infidel. I wish to say that this is wholly untrue.
