Yours For Business, LeBlanc & Scheunemann ANDREW KRAUSE DEAD On Monday morning Andrew Krause was found dead at his home near Haxtun. Mr. Dee had purchased some stock from him and was to come after it Monday morning. When he went to the house and knocked, receiving no answer, he opened the door and the body lay in the middle of the floor and beside it lay a shot gun with which Krause had evidently killed himself. Coroner Lewis of Holyoke was notified and went to the house with a jury and held an inquest, the jury finding a verdict of death by his own hand. His death was a great shock to all who knew him. He had resided on his farm near Haxtun for several years and was well fixed financially. He seemed to be of a cheerful disposition but at times suffered some from poor health. He left no clue whatever to his reason for taking his life. He had no relatives in this state but had relatives at Kearney, Nebraska who were notified but did not arrive at Haxtun till after the funeral which was conducted from the school house on Tuesday, Rev. Jenkins of Holyoke preaching the sermon. Andrew Krause was highly respected by a large acquaintance to whom, in all probability, the motive he had in taking his own life will never be known. Rev. and Mrs. G.A. Spence, children and Mrs. S.T. Thompson returned Tuesday from attendance on the Methodist annual conference at Longmont. Rev. Spence was changed from Holyoke to Lyons and Rev. G.L. Rulison was assigned to Holyoke. Rev. Spence has been pastor of the Holyoke church for two years and on the occasion of the last quarterly conference was asked to return for another year by a unanimous vote of the conference. As pastor of the church, he has done faithful and good work and leaves the church in good condition. It is a great disappointment to members and friends of the church that he has not been returned for another year. Rev. and Mrs. Spence will be much missed by the people of the town who wish them abundant success in their new field of labor. Orville Hurdle, who attended the Holyoke school for a year, is now attending the Denver University. George Wilcox has so fully recovered from his recent severe injuries as to be able to come to town occasionally. His many friends are pleased to see him around again as they feared that his injuries would prove much more serious than they have. Daniel Hann of this county was recently examined in the county court on the charge of insanity and was found to be insane. Sheriff Hitt took him to Pueblo this week leaving Holyoke Tuesday evening. He is one of the early settlers of the county and his is a very sad case indeed. He is between 70 and 80 years of age and has always lived alone on his land in the county. In talking with neighbors he could very seldom be prevailed upon to say anything about his relatives or his past life. He, it seems, was at one time a shoemaker in Peoria, Illinois and was well fixed financially. He has been heard to speak of his wife and two daughters but no one has ever been able to get him to tell where his wife and daughters make their home. A short time ago, he began to fail in health and was for some time taken care of at his home by the neighbors who took him food and looked after his wants. He was finally prevailed upon to go to the home of Benjamin DesLarzes where he was cared for till his mind had failed so much that it was not thought safe to keep him there any longer. He came to this county in 1887 and for several years prior to that time had lived at Republican, Nebraska. Parties who knew him at that place have been written to but can give no information in regard to his relatives.
