Rogers, near Amherst, on September 16. At a few minutes past 12 o’clock Miss Pauline Rogers and Roy Burns attended by Miss Lucy Burns and Lee Johnson, entered the parlor to the strains of the wedding march played by Miss Nina Rogers, and Rev Spence of Holyoke spoke the mystic words that made them husband and wife. The bride wore a gown of white linen and groom wore the conventional black. About thirty guests were present and a sumptuous wedding dinner was served. The bride is well known and very popular among her many friends, and the groom is a successful young farmer. The couple left Thursday morning for Julesburg where they will visit a few days before returning to their home near Venango, Nebraska. Their friends presented them with many beautiful presents. They have the best wishes of a host of friends for their future success and happiness. -- Guest Page Four O.W. Lohn of Haxtun was in Holyoke Wednesday. Akron had a ten thousand dollar fire one night last week. Floyd Burnett returned Tuesday from a business trip through Nebraska. H.W. Munson of Sterling was in Holyoke Wednesday on legal business. Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Shuler and Mrs. E.K. Lewis returned Wednesday from a trip to Denver and other points in the state. John Heginbotham, S.T. Thompson, J.A. Hazen and H. Sutherland went to Denver Saturday to attend the meeting of the Masonic Grand Lodge. Hon. Otis Castetter, formerly of Holyoke but now of Denver, came down to Holyoke the first of the week evidently to look after somebody's political fences. The stone work on the new power house for the town water works is nearing completion. The work is being done by Ed Hethcote and the building will be a credit not only to him but to the town. Robert Martin recently brought to Holyoke a sample of, what we pronounce, as fine corn as was ever raised in Phillips County. The seed for this corn came from a state east of us and still the corn was so thoroughly ripened as to be out of all danger from frost or freezing. Except in the flint varieties of corn, we have never seen as large eared corn raised in this county that at this season of the year was so thoroughly ripened. It will pay our farmers to examine this corn and see for themselves its good qualities. A sample of it was left at the Phillips County Bank. Rev. G.L. Rulison and family from Chicago arrived in Holyoke Saturday. Rev. Rulison is pastor of the Methodist church of Holyoke and preached at the church Sunday morning and evening to a good sized audience. Joseph and Byron Aikin arrived in Holyoke last week from Blessing, Texas, where they spent the summer with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Knox Aikin, formerly of this county. The boys report fine crops in that part of Texas this year and say that their parents are well pleased with the country. S.S. Worley treated the Herald office, some time ago, to some as fine potatoes as were ever grown in Phillips County. The potatoes were on exhibition at the last farmers institute held at Holyoke. They were not only fine looking potatoes but we have never eaten better potatoes. They were of the Early Ohio and Triumph varieties. The primary department of the Holyoke school was found to be so crowded that it has been necessary to employ another teacher to take charge of part of the pupils. Mrs. Estella Summers will teach part of the pupils of that department and, as there was no room in the school building, permission has been secured for Mrs. Summers to use her office room in the court house as a school room till some different arrangement can be made. G.R. McKibben has been appointed by the county superintendent as school director in the Holyoke district to fill vacancy caused by the resignation of S.H. Johnson.
