Mrs. Lawson retired from school teaching last June after spending 38 years in various capacities in the Bakersfield Public Schools the last being Supervising Principal of the Fremont School. Mrs. Lawson (Miss Neva Willey) graduated in 1896 from the Aspen High School and then taught school in Aspen until 1900 when she accepted a position in the Denver Public Schools. She remained there for four years and then accepted a position in Seattle, Washington, where she remained until 1912 when she went to Bakersfield. She received credit on her California retirement for years taught in other states. Mrs. Lawson is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ernest R. Willey. Mr. Willey operated sawmills in the section and worked for many years with Mr. Harry Koch, father of Mrs. William R. Shaw. Mrs. Lawson has moved from Bakersfield to Cayucos, California, where she will live with a sister, Mrs. Noxola Willey Key and they will operate a gift shop situated on the main coast highway. Mrs. Lawson spent many happy hours with former school mates and friends during her stay here and took back renewed memories of her residence here.
