Mrs. Stella GROUT, 72 Retired Teacher, Dies. Miss Stella S. GROUT a well known retired Pueblo school teacher, died early Saturday morning after a long illness. Miss GROUT was born March 26, 1888 in Idaho Springs. Her first four years of teaching were spent in rural schools at Graneros, Banner and Abbey. In 1914 she became a member of Dist. 20 faculty and in succeeding years taught at Carlile, Lake View and Edison schools. She went to Central High School in 1925. She was head of mathematics department there for 20 years proceeding her retirement in 1948. "She was a fine teacher," commented John DUNLAP, Dist. 60 superintendent. "She loved kids, she loved mathematics and she loved to teach." Miss GROUT was a member of the Pueblo Retired Teachers Club, the American Assn. of University Women, the Pueblo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the First Congregational Church and several church societies. Two other sisters, Mrs. Zama FINLAY of Millburn, N.J., and Mrs. Dorothy YOUNG of Colorado Springs and a brother, William GROUT of Penrose, also survive. Miss GROUT had lived in Pueblo for 68 years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Davis Mortuary. Rev. William Wayne ALLEN will officiate.
