As a young man Elijah Salmon came to the United States in 1863; he resided in the Eastern states for a number years; caming [sic] to Colorado in the early seventies, settled in Fremont County, where he followed coal mining for several years. In '84 he went to the lower Yampa river region in the ranch and stock business, but came to White River several years later when he purchased the J. J. Niblock ranch just below town. Here he lived until 1907 when Mrs. Salmon was called to her reward. Mr. Salmon then retired from active business life, bought and fixed up a neat residence on Park Avenue with the intention of enjoying the fruit of his former labors. In 1910 he visited the old home scenes in England and spent an anjoyable winter on the other side. Mr. Salmon was a man of the highest integrity and honor; he was held in the greatest esteem by all who knew him. He leaves a number of brothers and sisters to mourn his loss. Deceased was a member of Rio Blanco lodge No. 80, A. F. & A. M.; Meeker Chapter, R. A. M. and Glenwood community, Knights Templar; he was also a member of the local lodge of Odd Fellows. The burial took place in Denver, the remains being placed beside those of his departed wife. [endit].
