Norwood Cemetery, San Miguel County, Colorado Walked, photographed, transcribed Summer 2006 http://files.usgwarchives.net/co/sanmiguel/cemeteries/norwood.txt Donated by: Lois Jump This well-tended cemetery is located about one mile east of Norwood on the southside of Highway 145. It is easily divided into two sections by the circular drive. For the purposes of this transcription, the markers inside the perimeter of the circle drive are labeled as rows A-Y. The stones outside the circle drive are labeled rows 1-30. I read the cemetery from the west to the east and the stones in each row from south to north. It is appropriate to note that there is considerable distance between row 27 and row 29 as this is the newest part of the cemetery. This transcription gives reference to symbols marked on the stones when their meaning was evident such as club affliations, occupations, interests. Many of these stones bear the image of the local landmark, Lone Cone Mtn, or other landscape/wildlife scenes. I found approximately fifty fieldstones, several metal/glass mortuary placements which had faded or broken and no identification was evident. There are also a number of lots without markers, particularly in the inner circle where the older graves are located. There are several memorials: a bench placed in memory of Ken Haley, Norwood Fire Dept Fire Chief 1955-1974; a bench placed in memory of Gube and Nancy Saunders; a pinetree planted in memory of Roy Cornforth, and a sign for the IOOF. ***************************************************************************************************** Contributed for use by the USGenWeb Project (http://www.usgenweb.org) Archives and by the COGenWeb Project Archives USGenWeb Project.
