Williams was born at Dubuque, Iowa, January 22, 1862. He came to Colorado with his parents in 1862 and located at Central City. He went into the White river Country in 1878. He spent two years in that section and in 1880 went to Wyoming and later to Montana. For ten years he followed the boxing game. He held the championship of Canada and the Northwest for seven years and retired undefeated. In 1890 he came into the Norwood section where he went into partnership with his brother, the late Roger Williams. At the time of his death he was running the farm and livestock business he and his brother had built up. In 1898 he went to Denver and stayed a year. At that time he fought Billy Woods and won by a knockout in the seventh round. He came home in 1899 and since that time has remained here. In 1905 he was married to Miss Phoebe Merriman. To this union three sons and three daughters were born. He died December 29, 1933, at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 7 days. He is survived by his wife, daughters, Mildred, May, and Florence; sons, Williams, John, and James: two brothers, W.W. Williams of Naturita and Ben F. Williams of Norwood.
