The following marriage notices appeared in the Morning Times, Cripple Creek, Teller Co., Colorado during the months of August through December in the year of 1897. Some the marriages did not occur in Teller County. The date of publication is shown prior to the item(s). There is no implication that this is all that may have been published in these editions. Aug 14, 1897: Colorado Springs, Aug. 13. – Marriage licenses were issued today to Albert Lambert and Nellie Patterson, both of Cripple Creek. Frank F. Hungerford and Dora C. Willard, both of Cripple Creek. William O. Bryant and Nivia Kerr, both of Goldfield. Aug 17, 1897: Wedding Bells. – Louis collier, owner of the hall over the Club livery stable, Second and Carr, was married to Miss Nellie Zoutman by a Methodist minister at Colorado Springs Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Collier will reside in Cripple Creek. Yesterday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee, Fred M. Hooten of Cripple Creek, and Miss Winnie Smith of Cripple Creek, the Rev. W.F. Hunt officiating. Marion Longmire, of this city, and Miss Ella Norris of Denver, were married at the Collins hotel Sunday evening, Rev. Hunt of the M.E. church officiating. The newly wedded pair will make their home in Cripple Creek. Aug 18, 1897: Linz-Wikoff. – Marriage Ceremony Performed by the Rev. Hunt Last Evening. Last evening, in the presence of numerous friends, Miss Lizzie Linz of this city, and Mr. William P. Wikoff, a prominent young man of Dodge City, Kan., were united in marriage at the home of Mr. Al Lawson, 116 Irene avenue, by the Rev. W.T. Hunt, pastor of the Christian church. A delicious wedding supper was then served. Mr. and Mrs. Wikoff will make their future home in Dodge City. Aug 26, 1897: License Issued. – Colorado Springs, Aug. 25. – Marriage licenses have been granted to John F. Fried and Sigred Benson, both of Anaconda, and S.D. Chamberlin and Edna W. Squire of Cripple Creek. Aug 27, 1897: Victor: Dr. George McKenzie and Mrs. F.B. Bullis were married Wednesday evening at the residence of the bride’s mother on Spicer avenue. Rev. McNair of the Presbyterian church officiated. Mr. and Mrs. McKenzie left for Twin Lakes, near Leadville, over the F.&C.C. railroad. They will spend their honeymoon there. After returning to Victor they will be at home in the Truax cottage on South Second street. Dr. McKenzie is one of the most prominent physicians in Victor. Sep 1, 1897: Mr. and Mrs. Foley left on the Midland at 10:55 for Salt Lake City, on their wedding trip, and will be absent until September 5, when they will be at home to their many friends in a cozy little cottage which the groom has prepared at 216 May avenue. Sep 4, 1897: A Pleasant Evening. Members of Cripple Creek Canton No. 17 P.M. donned their uniforms last evening and with their wives gave a surprise party to the newly married member, Mr. Chevlier Clements, and his bride, at Independence. Although taken completely by surprise Mrs. Clements proved herself to be a charming hostess and a pleasant evening was enjoyed by all. Sep 10, 1897: Married. – John F. Freed and Miss Sigried Benson, both of Anaconda, were married last evening, Rev. C.L. Kirk of the First Baptist church officiating. The ceremony was performed in the new home which Mr. Freed has fitted up. The pair will reside in Anaconda, where the groom is employed on the Doctor mine. Sept 12, 1897: Married. – At the residence of Dr. and Mrs. A.S. Fleming, 121 ½ West Bennett avenue, last evening, Reverend Hunt officiating, A.J. Maloney was married to Miss Mamie Fleming. Mr. Maloney is the Cripple Creek circulator of the Denver Post, is genial and deservedly popular. This notice of his marriage will be a surprise to dozens of his friends in Denver and through-out this district. Sep 14, 1897: William Parker Mussey and Miss Katheryn McCoy were married in Pueblo Saturday at the Holy Trinity church. Judge Charles Peavey of this city attended the wedding in the capacity of groomsman. Sep 15, 1897: Miss Lemp Wedded. – Ventole, Isle of Wight, Sept. 14. – Colonel Gustav Pabst, son of the millionaire brewer of Milwaukee, was married today to Miss Hulda Lemp, daughter of the millionaire brewer of St. Louis. Silver Wedding. – The silver wedding of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Hunt was celebrated at their home on Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Hunt entertained handsomely. Their residence was comfortably filled with a number of their invited friends. The host and hostess received a number of choice presents and numerous congratulations. Those present to bid the couple welcome and long life were: Mrs. M.A. Hunt, Victor; Miss Amelia Hunt, Victor; Mrs. and Mrs. W.E. Hunt, Gillett; Mr. J. McCoach, Victor; Mr. and Mrs. J. Moore, Independence; Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Taylor, Colorado Springs; Mrs. C.A. Gurnsey, Colorado Springs. Sep 17, 1897: Married. – Wednesday night, at the residence in Altman of the bride’s sister, Mrs. C. Call, Rev. Charles Carr married Harry Entic to Agnes Reilly. Sep 19, 1897: Wedding Bells. – Harry J. Gehm and Miss Esther E. Moore were wedded at Denver September 15. Mr. Gehm is chief clerk at the Midland office in Cripple Creek, while Miss Moore is a society belle of Shelbyville, Ill. The couple will make their home in Cripple Creek. Sep 28, 1897: Colorado Springs. Sept. 27. – Marriage licenses were today granted to John Nelson and Leah Farris of Cripple Creek, and M.J. Keating of Altman and Mary Mullins of Arequa. Oct 3, 1897: Colorado Springs, Oct. 2. – A marriage license was issued today to P.M. Carlson and Annie Forscelins, both of Cripple Creek. Oct 6, 1897: John Woody and Sadie E. Covert, both of Gillett were married at the Methodist parsonage in Colorado Springs yesterday. Colorado Springs, Oct. 5. – A marriage license was granted today to John H. Mans and Mrs. Anna James both of Cripple Creek. Oct 10, 1897: Miss Alice Ulhn and Mr. Peter Wagner were united in marriage last Wednesday evening at the home of the bride’s sister, Mrs. George Burcher, in Elkton, the Rev. Mr. Ray of the Congregational church of Cripple Creek, performing the marriage with…..supper was served. The presents were many and useful. After a late hour the guests departed, wishing the newly joined couple a long and happy journey through life. Mr. and Mrs. Wagner will make their future home in California after a short stay of a few weeks in Elkton. Among those present were Rev. Ray, Mr. and Mrs. George Burcher, Mr. and Mrs. Ossey, Mrs. Kate Black, Miss Reding, Mr. B.F. McDowell, Mr. Dustel, Mr. C. M?ler, Mr. and Mrs. Sheff. The engagement of Mr. Z. Kopf to Miss Segill is announced. Oct 12, 1897: Marriage Licenses. – Marriage licenses were issued yesterday to John W. Buchanan and Georgia G. Lemieux, both of Cripple Creek, and Bryan Hall and Madge E. Provah, both of Altman. Oct 17, 1897: Mr. Warwick downing and his bride, nee Miss Leet, of Denver, are spending their honeymoon here. Oct 20, 1897: Married. – John P., Gallagher and Roselia M. Shideler, both of Cripple Creek, were married last evening by Judge John Pennington. Oct 21, 1897: Married. – At Elkton last night. A.J. Campbell and Lizzie Holland were married by Rev. Keator of Victor. Oct 22, 1897: At Colorado Springs yesterday Charles L. Bryson of the Times, was married to Georgia De Pue of Franklin, Ind. Mr. and Mrs. Bryson left for Green Mountain Falls immediately after the ceremony. They will be in Cripple Creek Saturday evening and will be at home at the Eagle house. Oct 24, 1897: At Elkton on Wednesday, October 20, a very pretty wedding occurred at the home of the bride’s mother, Mrs. Kate Holland, when Miss Lizzie A. Holland was give in marriage to Mr. A.J. Campbell. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. L.J. Kenton of Victor. Mr. Campbell was attended by J.J. Holland as best man and Miss Barbara Sullivan was bridesmaid. After the ceremony the young people received congratulations and the guest enjoyed a delicious wedding supper at the conclusion of which the happy couple took the 11 o’clock train for Denver. Mr. Campbell is superintendent of the Raven mine and is highly esteemed by all who have the pleasure of his acquaintance. Miss Holland is a pretty and accomplished young lady and has made a host of friends during her short sojourn in Elkton. Presents were received from numerous friends from all parts of the country, among which was a beautiful silver set presented by the Raven Gold Mining company. Mr. and Mrs. Campbell will be at home to their friends in their cozy little home on Raven Hill in the near future. Nov 4, 1897: Troutman-Alexander. – At Goldfield yesterday morning Fred C. Troutman and Miss Nellie Alexander were married at the home of the bride’s parents. Rev. G.W. Barr officiated. Mr. Troutman is manager of Stratton’s American Eagles properties on Bull hill. Nov 12, 1897: A very enjoyable time was had last night at the pretty residence of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Goelz, by way of a surprise party in honor of their first anniversary. Piano and violin music made the evening a very delightful one which will long be remembered. A bountiful lunch was served at 12 o’clock. All went home with blessing and good wishes extended to the happy couple. Nov 22, 1897: Married. – Judge John Pennington last night married Charles Colon and Mrs. H. Carlson at the home of Mr. Colon on Eaton avenue. The ceremony was performed in the presence of thirty guests who spent the night until 12 o’clock in dancing and banqueting. Nov 28, 1897: Haas-Kepler. – James Haas, and engineer at the Elkton mine, and Lizzie Kepler, a Victor lady, celebrated Thanksgiving Day by getting married. The ceremony was performed at the Catholic church at 2 o’clock p.m. by Father Downey. Denver Dec. 11. – Mary Gohr, of Bradford, Pa., and V.H. Miller of Cripple Creek were married this evening at the Brown Palace, Judge Hayt officiating. The couple will spend a few days here before returning to Cripple Creek, where they will make their home. Dec 19, 1897: The marriage of V.H. Miller, the attorney of this city, was indeed a surprise to his many friends. He and his bride, who, by-the-way is a very pretty brunette, arrived from Denver where the marriage took place, on last Thursday and took rooms at Miss Carr’s, corner of Second and Carr, where they expect to remain for some time before commencing to keep house. Mrs. Miller was a Miss Gohr, whose home is in Pennsylvania. They were married by Charles D. Hayt, chief justice of the supreme court of this state, at the Brown Palace on the 11th inst., in the presence of a few relatives and intimate friends. This was followed by a wedding lunch. Dec 22, 1897: George W. Gill and Miss Leo Fleming were married last evening. The ceremony took place in the new home which Mr. Gill has fitted up for his bride at 102 East Eaton avenue. Mr. Gill is well known in Cripple Creek as the proprietor of the Wonder hardware and furniture store. Miss Fleming is the daughter of Dr. Fleming of Montrose, Colo. Mr. and Mrs. Gill will begin housekeeping at once in their new home. Dec 28, 1897: Cards are out announcing that Mr. and Mrs. D.C. Weyand will be at home to their friends at 2?? Fifth street after January 5. Mr. Weyand, Cripple Creek’s popular city clerk, was married at Burr Oak, Kan., on December 26 to Miss Sadie Davis of that place. After a short bridal tour the couple will settle down in their Cripple Creek home.
