Family research as of January 2012
Mary Josephine Carothers was born August 25, 1887 at Bird's Run, near 
Kimbolton, Guernsey, Ohio to George Patterson Carothers and Emma Ingram; the 
eighth child born to the couple. Have also found her as Josephine Mary 
Carothers and as Josie. She moved west with her parents to live at Garner, 
Hancock, Iowa in the spring of 1888. 

Josie met and married James Oran Maley on June 20, 1912 at Garner, Hancock, IA. 

The couple had 5 children: 
1. Reverand Harold Ingram Maley (born May 5, 1913 Garner, Hancock, IA, married 
Myrtle Melvina Huff 1931 Sidney, Nebraska, died June 23, 1991 Pueblo, 
Colorado.); 

2. Wilmer Acheson Maley (born February 28, 1915 Goodwater, Saskatchewan, 
Canada, married Detta Maxine Decker April 6, 1935 Sidney, Nebraska, died 
November 1, 1973 Los Angeles, California.); 

3. Mary Jean Maley (born September 26, 1919 Logan, Colorado, died February 14, 
2000 at Pueblo, Colorado.); 

4. Lyle Edwin Maley (born January 26, 1922 Colorado, died May 18, 1942 Denver, 
Colorado.); 

5. Robert Calvin Maley (born September 28, 1926 Proctor, Logan, Colorado, 
married Linnea Lynette Malm August 1945 at Boulder, Colorado, died March 11, 
2009 Greeley, Weld, Colorado.). 

Mary Josephine Carothers Maley died April 15, 1970 at Greeley, Weld, Colorado 
and was buried at the Grandview Cemetery, Fort Collins, Larimer, Colorado. 

Found in the 1895, 1900, 1905 & 1910 censuses living at Garner, Hancock, IA: 

1895: Josie Carothers age 7. 

1900: (Her father had died by 1900): Emma Carothers 43, Sadie E Carothers 24, 
Jennie R Carothers 20, William G Carothers 18, Lizzie M Carothers 14, Josephine 
M Carothers 12, Minnie A Carothers 10, Margaret A Carothers 7. 

1910: Emma Carothers 52, Lizzie Carothers 24, Josephine Carothers 22, Margaret 
Carothers 17. 

Found living in Sidney, Nebraska in 1918. 

Found in the 1920 census at Mercer, Logan, Colorado: James O Mafey 35, 
Josephine M Mafey 32, Orval J Mafey 12, Harold I Mafey 6, Milmar A Mafey 4[4 
11/12], Mary G Mafey 0[4/12. 

Found in the 1930 census living at Peetz, Logan, Colorado: James Maley 46, 
Josephine Maley 42, Harold Maley 16, Wilmer Maley 15, Mary Maley 10, Lyle Maley 
8, Calvin Maley 3.
