Nickey George W. Eller B. F. Stauffer President Arriba, Colo. Secretary and Treasurer McClave, Colo. Rocky Ford, Colo. THE CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN DISTRICT MISSION BOARD FOR EASTERN COLORADO McClave, Colo. Feb 1, 1926 To the Dear Brethren at Landsman Church. Dear members greetings. At a meeting of the district mission board which was held at Colorado Springs on Jan 29, all members being present, we took up the matter of the needs of the members of our church in your community. We also took into consideration the needs of our members in two other places where we have a small group of members. That of Arriba where we have a small group of members and a church house 12 miles north of town, they have no minister, and also Bethany Church which is located 9 miles southwest of Lymon they also have a small group of members and no minister. These two places are to be surveyed in the near future just as we did the Landsman church recently. And if we find a desire and willingness to co-operate on the part of the members in these places we have this proposition to make to all 3 of the places combined. That each place conduct a sunday school by their home talent and that we will through the co-operation of the general board and the student volunteer movement place a Pastor in the field to divide his time between these 3 places, with a Ford for transportation. We think a good young man who is a hustler can care for the preaching and pastoral work by giving his time entirely to this work. We propose to give this a try out and if it proves to be successful we will plan to keep the work going in this way or any other way which may prove satisfactory to the membership and a blessing to the Church and community. This is somewhat after the plan of some other churches which have a circuit Pastor, we find there is a feeling among some of our members in our district to try this plan here in the west until we can build up stronger Churches who will need the entire time of a Pastor. The board feels to recommend this plan and we hope we may have your hearty co-operation. We will expect to receive freewill offerings in finances for the work such as the people feel free to give. It will also be necessary for each place to provide a place for the Pastor to eat and sleep while he is in your community. Here is the sum of totals of the survey in your community at Landsman. No. of people living in the area 90, not in any s.s 77. If you can interest one half of these you can have a good s.s. Please give this a careful consideration and then let me hear from you. You know there were quite a few folks in your community which expressed a desire to have a s.s. started in your community and there is a place for us to do some work in a place where there is no work being done. Brother Yount, I am enclosing the minutes of the organization of the Landsman Church. I think you should have these for reference and further work. Please get a book and have them copyed in such a way that the new Pastor will have a place to record his work. Really, I think this circuit Pastor can be quite a bit of good. He can at least spend 1/3 of his time in your community and that will keep you supplied with Church services and it will also be very helpful in keeping up the interest of the s.s. We will try to get a good young man who will be qualified for the position. Please may I hear from you at an early date. Best regards to yourself and family. I looked for you in Burlington the other day when we went through town but failed to find you. (Signed) S.G.
