Page 1 - Wray

    The City of Wray, and, County seat of Yuma County, has a
population of 1,900. It is located on the headwaters of the
Republican River, 165 miles from Denver at an elevation of 3,500
feet, on the main line of the Burlington Railroad.
    On the north it is bordered by a long stretch of sandhills,
and on the south by, a picturesque line of buttes seamed with
many gulches and canyons, leading up to the Flats. These rocks
are quite precipitous in places and rise about 175 feet above the
level of the river. 
    Wray has an unusual supply of pure water piped to all parts
of the city from its reservoir on top of the bluffs at the south
edge of the city. Wray among few Colorado towns, owns and
operates its own light and power plant, of which it should be
very proud. 
    There are eight churches and seven lodge organizations. It
has the best of educational facilities in its modern up-to-date
high, school and grade school. The Johnny Hines Post No 30 of the
American Legion is active in Wray and maintains a large
membership. 
    The two weekly newspapers, namely, The Wray Rattler and The
Wray Gazette bring to the people of Wray and its trade area the
latest happenings in local news and topics of the day.
    The city government is composed of town manager, Wm. Buhler;
mayor, Ray D. Hildreth; trustees, W. W. Bauer, W. T. Diss, R. W.
Gardner, Joe C. Graham, George Isham, and D. E. Sisson. Also
there is an active Commercial Club composed of over sixty
members. Of this club David M. Grigsby is president, Paul C.
Groves, vice president; N. Dean Henry, secretary; and E. F.
Hubert, treasurer. 
    Wray is one of the greatest trade centers of Eastern Colorado
and a growing and lively city. Anyone can be justly proud to
boast Wray as their home.
